One of the main reasons we don't have kids is because we thought about "what the world is coming to" before taking the plunge. That and stories like Dan's and Charlie's where to maintain a decent standard of living, you have to work so long and hard that you never get to see the little 'uns anyway.
Trust me, running a pub abroad is no picnic either. Red tape and local hostility continually put barriers in the way of trying to make a living, and unless you can afford staff, the hours are very long and the work very hard.
