How long does it take

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
It never ceases to amaze me how little time players are given to prove them selves before they are written off.  Clarke got 12 minutes today and there are already calls for a new striker to be brought in, this is the 4th best striker in the league.  Wiggins was written off earlier this season, not sure what happened to him.  There is a whole trail of players written off in their first game, who with time on the field have proved themselves.  Players need to be given time whether they are new to the club or have been rotting in the reserves without real match practice and then are brought in.

  • For the record, I thought he was awful in every way - but I'm sure he'll do a bit better when he's been with the club for more than a day and plays for more than 10 minutes!
  • Would help if he wears boots next week instead of trainers.

Its far too early to offer any sensible opinion on the guy who he needs a run of at least half a dozen games in the side for this to be formulated which is unlikely to happen in the short term with him warming the bench. However he looked like he was treading water chasing a couple of through balls which hasn't endeared him to some on here and neither did the stupid foul he gave away just outside our box as soon as he came on. I'll reserve my judgement until the next quarter of the season is up assuming he gets some game time that is.
  • Your right Kap , we expect instant success , might take Clarkey 6 games to settle him in , i reckon he should start v Fulham.
  • His first bit of action was to foul a player on the edge of the box, his second was to miscontrol a pass & allowed it to go out for a throw. I have to say he looked poor but .....was anyone impressed with big Yann when he first came into the team ?

Lets give him a bit of time & judge him then

  • Wonder how many people who are critical of him have ever come on in a game with 12 mins left, no matter what level the level is?

Added to the fact that he hasn't played for some time.

    He can only improve.

  • He's carrying a bit of timber too.
  • Well, I thought he was shocking, but in Chris Powell we trust. So I assume it was a bad day at the office for him.

I'm such a loyal fan, I am prepared to criticise players we havent even signed yet.

Good grief, we have some tools following our club.
So many people who need to sort out the problems in their own lives.
  • He was very slow!

  • Who haven't we signed Floyd?
  • I am not certain, but they are rubbish.
    Trust me.
  • Sorry to disappoint you, but Leon looks leaner and quicker this season than at any point.Oh and loved the comment about fourth best striker in league one.Wont take you long to realise he aint the fourth best in his own dreams.

But Floyd people on this thread are talking about a guy that has not only signed for us, but played for us, so I'm not getting your point?

    In your own dreams
  • Nethertonowl

Chris Powell has already shown you in the case of Morro (as well as Kermogant)  that he can spot a good player, and if necessary pull him out of a hole and get the best from him.

Now if you think Megson can do the same, especially with Miguel Liera, now 32, then I'm happy for you.because if not, you have got some bad moments coming your way.  I look forward to assessing the progress on that one on Jan 14......

Rightly or wrongly, strikers are judged by the number of goals they score.........hence the '4th' title........
Solly was 'too small' at the start of the season......look back at the match threads where people were saying we were being exposed wide due to Solly's lack of height.
Wiggings was ordinary for the first half a dozen games, according to some.
Green couldn't get in the side and, when he did, had an ordinary start.
Hamer is 'shaky' and flaps at everything.
BWP should be dropped and not sulk so much......
Yann was ridiculed before he kicked a ball........
Some people don't desrve this team........

Ok the stats say fifth behind your guy.
  • M.A.T you must be holding a hamer  Hammer in your hand , because you nailed it exactly.
  • To be fair to Clarke, the poor sod's probably only had one training session with the team and most likely spent the previous 3 weeks training with the Swindon youth team. A bit early, therefore, to be labelling him the next Frank Nouble or ( heaven forbid ) Mike Small.

  • He looked like Bambi when he was running his legs all over the place  and as for the Gloves .. they should be left with the snood....but agree judge him after 10 or so games ....he will be sharper and fitter ,,,,he is a good player and will get Goals

    Lets get behind him .............

The first thing Yann did for us was slip a fantastic ball through for Waggy to cross for a BWP goal against Chesterfield. Then he scored against Dons to salvage a point. Then he scored against Sheff Utd with his first touch of the game. So yeah, I was kind of impressed when he came in to the team myself

People around me, and others here on CL have been accentuating his negative points based on a few minutes play.
Which, I find, sadly reflects the general overblown negativity which accompanies any minor set back at Charlton.

I thought I'd steal a march on these 12 minute soothsayers by predicting that the next player we sign will be rubbish.
  • Well lets wait and see but on yesterdays short showing he looks a bit slow but as said maybe he's not match fit

There's no maybe if he hasn't played a 1st team game for 3 weeks and 2 days.

Jackson not played for 5 weeks = slow, not fit, but totally understandable.

Clarke not played for 3 weeks 2 days = slow, not fit & shit apparently.
