  • He is  a bit of a flat track bully at the moment and scoring his goals in clusters - despite being the Division's top scorer with 17 I believe they all came in just 8 matches and that he has actually failed to score in 10 League games. By contrast, BWP's 14 goals have come in 11 matches and he has failed to score in 9.

One thing is for certain and that is that all the Ipswich fans I know are far from happy that Roy Keane let him go at such a young age and for so little.

Good point, though Sheff Wed away is hardly a flat track
Point taken but, having revisited this, I have found that he has actually only scored in 7 League games:

    Colchester (2)
    Brentford (2)
    Exeter (3)
    Scunthorpe (1)
    Preston (3)
    Notts Co (2)
    Sheff Wed (4)

Seems that there are some defences that simply can't handle him but quite a few others that know exactly what is required to do the job.

I agree about Beckford and it is very interesting that, as you say, Rhodes scores in clusters and seems over reliant on good service from (especially) Roberts. Perhaps it's also a case of cut off the stream and the well goes dry
  • Could arguably say the same for BWP though Lincs, though not to the same degree. He seems to do better when Green, Kermorgant and Stephens give him lots of lovely passes to feed off, though he does at least have the occassional moment of genius should he need it.
  • Can't see any premier clubs going after him in January. Not anything to do with his ability, It's just that the teams that are looking for a striker are all struggling and won't want to take a gamble, they want a sure thing. So to get that, they'll spend twice as much on a foreigner that no-ones ever heard of (or seen) and Hansen/Shearer can wet themselves over his "fantastic" tap-in from 3 yards (which will be his first goal for the club now the pressure has been removed as it's now May and the team were relegated 2 weeks ago).

true, and I suppose that is really true of all consistent strikers, Messi for example is a great player at Barcelona because he is mostly 'the centre of attention', he's not so effective for Argentina as other strikers/egos are vying for attention .
  • I've heard a whisper that Celtic are interested and they were his boyhood team. Though why he'd want to move up north is anyone's guess.
  • Morison and Holt are doing ok at Norwich so Rhodes could be a hit in a higher division, but something tells me that he wouldn't be.. le Fondre is not scoring too many goals at Reading but his all round play has been a revelation .. more prolific 3rd division strikers fail in a higher division than make it .. in the premier division .. how many English strikers are there nowadays ? .. not many

We have the same problem with BWP, he will not score a lot of goals in the Championship, league 1 is more his level hence the reson we need to sign at least one more striker for cover.

This is pretty widely reported in Scottish papers. I really don't think it would be a good move for him. From watching allmost all of Charlton's games this year and most of Rangers I can honestly say that the standard of football isn't much better in the SPL than in League One for the most part - he's young with lots of talent, but he needs to develop and I don't think the dead end of the Scottish league is the place to do it. There's pleanty of time to play for Celtic when he's in his late 30's !  Secondly, Celtic wouldn't be able to be offer much more in terms of wages than say Southampton and certainly no where near as much as and Enlgish Premier League team.

I think with good service BWP would score goals in the Championship.

Might not have done in the past but I'd imagine he's improved his game since and think he was also at times played out wide.

Could still do with better competition for his place though I agree.

That's where, from what I've seen, Schlupp could be perfect. He can keep both BWP and Kermorgant on their toes as he can play both the big and little man in a strike partnership.

Does he use 'stilts' then Callum? ;-0

No, he's just really adept at walking on his knees.
  • In an interview Megson was asked would he approach Rhodes' Dad about how to defend against his son.

Megson said that would be unprofessional and didn't.

He might be regretting that now.

If Megsonneeds to ask a goalkeeping coach how to stop a striker scoring then he's got problems.
  • not if the goalkeeping coach knows some of the strikers most embarrassing secrets.
