Missing Jacko.

edited December 2011 in General Charlton

Realise this might have had an airing in other threads but thought it was worth having one of it's own.

What with BWP firing blanks for a couple of weeks we're really missing Jacko's goals far more than we might have first realised.

Of course you can't say for sure, but I'd like to think he'd have come up with a goal or two this last week or so, which just might have made all the difference.

We need him back ASAP!

  • He's the skipper and has huge experience and presence. Yes we are missing him.
  • The last time BWP scored was when Jackson got injured  -  Brentford A.

3 games since, Hudds, Walsall, Oldham , no BWP goals. Coincidence ?

I know our losing streek last season, coincided with him being out injured.

  • A number of fans are suggesting Hughes absence is the catalyst for the dip in form (10 games unbeaten, 25 points out of 30,how many would have taken that dip in form over the last 5 years).  I actually believe that Russell has added to our central midfield (would Hughes have been in place to score the goal yesterday) and it is the loss of Jackson and the use of two offensive wingers that has hit our creativity and put more pressure on the midfield and defence.

Don't want Jackson rushed back but hope he is available soon,in the mean time would start with both Hughes and Russell.

good post .. Ephraim is one 'luxury' player too many .. however Hughes is not on the bench lately and it could be that he'll be going/gone come January which will be a shame
  • I miss him too, R.I.P. Michael
  • Shammmmone!!!!!!!!!!!

So what would our midfield be on that basis Kap? I can't see either of those two being capable of playing wide.

    Mee three.
  • Hopefully jj and stephens will be back in time for the orient game

I wouldn't set out that way if I were Powell but Russell pushed wide a lot against Oldham so I reckon he'd do the job well enough

  • Thank the lord, I thought we had another MJ thread!
  • Think we missed JJ yesterday, obviously not so much in other games.
  • I don't believe missing Jackson has
backfired on us, of course I think he has been one of our best players
but we did not need him against Huddersfield and Hogan is doing pretty
ok. So I don't believe missing Jackson will not enable us to keep this
winning run going. Last season I would say yes missing Jackson made a
difference but this season we have a much better squad and brining in
Hogan was to cover for Jacko.

  • I think we are missing him a lot , it's nothing against Ephraim who has impressed me but he is not left footed and lacks Jacko's all round game .I feel JJ links particularly well with Hollands and Wiggins on that side .I am sometimes surprised that he does not get higher marks on here because he gets through a lot of the unglamourous work during games.

Ephraim is good going forward and showed particularly excellant perception to bag his goal against Huddersfield. He does not cover in the middle as much as JJ does.

I hope he is back for the O's game.

I guess Hughes could play on the right but narrow rather like Kish and Holland both did at times under Curbs.

We'd then play one winger who could switch given that Wiggins is almost a winger anyway a lot of the time.
  • Will be happy when we can again play JJ, Stephens, Hollands, Green. Our best midfield in my opinion.

  • I think I heard Powell say (and Jacko on Twitter) it's possible he could be back for Brentford but nothing will be rushed.

I would love to have that side back for Fulham and Wednesday. Any idea how long Stephens is out for?
  • I think Dale is out to the start of the new year, so could be back for Wednesday.

Jackson just gives other teams something to worry about, he creates space for BWP to score as defenders are bothered about him coming in from no where.

As for Dale, there were times on Saturday where he would have come short and got the ball, created space, and picked a pass. He was carrying a nasty little injury which effected his form, so I'm confident he'll come back and do what he was doing so with at the start

I think there were two Dale Stephens, the one that started the season and the one that played the last few games before he was dropped/injured. If we can get him and Hollands back to top form then we'll be fine.
