We went in a pub before the game at about 11am, about every half an hour the guvnor rang a bell and it was happy hour prices. Needless to say it was bedlam.
Anyone remember the name of the pub, were you there?
One of the last times I went to Fulham, it was snowing and people were canoeing on the river. made me feel even colder.
We were in a pub by the river before the game by Putney Bridge and @riscardo was drinking tea. It was also one of the first times I met @Les_says. He'd been out the night before, and hadn't slept and despite the cold weather, he had the sweats. lovely.
@curb_it and I may have bumped into Mark Fish before the game but I may be getting that confused with another match. There is a pic on facebook of it i think.
Last time I went was in the championship winning season. It was terracing and we lost 2-1. I remember us chanting where were you when you were shit after the game as they started running. Also the guys at the pub were drinking some hilarious luminous cocktail fishbowl which looked like something mixed by Derrick Trotter, a great day out other than the football.

Went to Fulham in the late 50s? Big crowd. I must have been 11 or 12 yeras old. Might have been an FA Cup game? Tony Mercedo was in goal for them. I seem to remember Fulham used to fly him over from Gibraltar every week to play for them. I think he must have been serving in the forces. Comedian Tommy Trinder was their Chairman. I remember the famous England player Johnny Haynes playing for them (captain?) and several times putting his hands on his hips when a team mate failed to pass correctly to him! Biggest memory of the day was being "carried out" by the squash of the crowd exiting the ground and only finding my feet when outside in the street. Can't remember the score. I think it was a draw.
...they were in division three and won 3-1 against Bristol City. I think it was 1988 or so. Only remember that Clive Walker looked far too old to be a footballer.
*Charlton weren't playing that day. For the record.
One of my first away games was my Dad taking me there in the late 70's seeing us draw 1-1 with Lawrie Abrahams scoring on his debut .I also remember a classic FA Cup game where we won 2-1 and watched a park game at half time in Bishops Park when the away end was open.
It used to be my favourite away ground with its Thames side setting and Craven Cottage .
Last time I was there was to watch Brighton v Fulham in the cup, getting on for 20yrs ago, a 0-0 bore draw, but there was a couple getting fruity in the park behind the away stand who got sung to that was the highlight of that game
Remember watching a Charlton match on what was then an open terrace by the river - and we all turned round to watch as the Oxford/Cambridge boat race went past.
Must have been during the 70s. Things you remember.

I remember that too...most memorable game there for me was 86 promotion season, I think we won 0-3 and there were defiently more of us in the ground than them.....I think they got relegated as we went up with the Wombles...
the last time i was at craven cottage was the 2nd coldest ive ever been (the coldest being the 5-0? drubbing away to west ham on a boxing day). i can't even remember the score.
i do remember doing the double over them in the same week (i think) after an earlier postponement. this was towards the end of the 85-6 promotion season.
edit to say tel beat me to it.
i seem to remember fulham fans parading a coffin to one of the games.
My first away game was at Fulham, 1975 when we were on match of the day - a real rarity for us. The cup win in 1981 is still one of my favourite CAFC games, I was standing near the cottage and killers winner seemed to warp into the net at 100mph. And yes, it can get bloody cold there - I was once asked by a brass monkey on the Putney end where the nearest welders was.
There's a pub about 15 mins walk from the ground that gives you 20% off food on the day if you show your ticket. It's great food as well. Think it was called the Durell Arms. I'd recommend it as the other one nearer the ground tends to get completely packed out pretty early on

Yep fulham brought a coffin to selhurst park on a night we won 2-0 I think theyr were en route to the 4th tier and we went up to the top flight
Last time I went to fulham was a premiership fixture and we were sitting in a little bit to the side with our back to the river
I think some of our fans are a bit bitter towards fulham cos they are definitely a smaller fan based sized club compared to ours and when you look at the turnover of managers they've had you would have expected them to have fallen from the prem but they clearly done better than us when it came to appointing new managers ....... I mean up to SCP, this season ,you'd be hard pushed to have gotten this club to have done worse with the managers that arrived after lucky curbs , in fact S,eths sheep prolly still can't believe it didn't get the gig after the caretakers trial ;-)

When Charlton played away in those days we would choose to go to another London game and Fulham was cheap and easy to get to. Saw a few games in the late 50's early 60's in the days of 'Tosh' Chamberlain, Macedo, Leggatt, young Cohen, Langley,Mullery, etc and Johnny Haynes. Particular memory at one game the plummy half time announcement which went something like...." We are regret to say that unfortunately Johnny wont be able to make the second half....'
My Dad took me to my first ever game there.Fulham v Preston NE in October 73 (it was my birthday treat) a 0-0 game with a few decent players coming to the end of their careers and Bobby Charlton was the Preston manager. Then before they could do him for child cruelty my Dad saw sense and took me to the Valley.
Early 1969. Absolutely freezing, won 1-0 with a Ray Treacy screamer. Happy days.
Sweet.
Treacle was always a bit of a hero of mine.
I'll always remember that '81 cup match.
'Supermac' Malcolm MacDonald was their manager then and he'd spent the the build up to the game gobbing off hyping up his striker Dean Coney, saying he was better than Hales and he should play for England.
MacDonald was a loudmouth (like Clough but without the success)
He also said all they had to do was shackle Hales and they would win the game.

All we have to do is work out which year that Oxford and Cambridge got to the final of the boat race and you have the correct date.
Comments
no but i think i had one there.
Kings arms. Could be.

I got a feeling the Mark Fish one was actually at QPRs ground but when we played fulham there.
25th Jan 1958 39,586
FFC 1 (Hill 67) CAFC 1 (Ryan 89)
Lost the replay 2 - 0 in front of 43,097 which, as Colin Cameron points out, was very good as it was played on a working day and kicked off at 2.15pm

They had a gangling youth at centre forward and he must have missed half a dozen decent chances.
Hopeless.
But he was always in the right place at the right time.
And went on to become a legend at every club he played for.
Malcolm Macdonald.
