Its lovely to know that he was liked by so many people and considered a 'true legend'
he loved Charlton and always wanted to know how they were getting on throughout the last 2 years when he was unable to attend the matches because of his health.
we are really pleased that on the 17th of December Charlton will be marking his passing at the match.
In the late 1940’s my dad took me to the Valley to watch Charlton and Wolves . The only memories I have of that day are the long sloping terrace and Sam Bartram . I expect on that day Peter Croker was in the team.
Little did I know 40 odd years later I would have the pleasure of being Peter and Barbara Croker next door neighbours and what wonderful people they were.
Peter was always a very meticulous and a very sincere man. During the latter part of his life he was very set in his ways with routine trips to Charlton’s home games and attending a reminiscing club with a few of his friends who would meet to talk about old times.
His interests were not confined to football he loved cricket and regularly watched a cricket match on Sundays He was very knowledgeable about it too.
Deep down when you got to know him he was very kind hearted and so knowledgeable about football, the teams and football grounds in the leagues. He was a very interesting man to talk and he had a wealth of tales to tell. He shared many with my wife and I.
He will truly be missed by his family, friends and his many fans.
To the Croker Family, I apologise but had to send my condolences. My father, Bill Robinson, also played in the same team as Peter. I believe they also played cricket for Bexleyheath and Welling and seem to remember meeting Mr Croker with my father though I was very young at the time, in fact I was born on the day of the 1947 Cup Final, but do have some distant memories around the early 50s. My father had moved onto West Ham then but still met up with some of his old Charlton team mates. I also remember meeting Jack Shreeves and Sam Bartram with him. My father passed away in 1992 but the memories that he and Mr Croker and the Charlton team left are priceless. I hope that I have not caused any distress for this correspondence but I felt had had to leave this comment as a tribute to Mr Peter Croker.
I have that picture of Peter in the shop. I remember his grandson coming in to get some school uniform and he was delighted to see his Grandad's photo on the wall. Proper Charlton RIP
