A question regarding the '47 FA cup final.

Possibly a bit pointless. While I was reading bits and pieces online about the glorious day I noticed that both Charlton and Burnley played in their second kits that day. Charlton in white and Burnley in blue.

Was there any sort of interesting reason behind this?

  • Because there was no colour telly in those days and you needed contrasting colours. ie Dark/Light.

That's what I thought. But Burnley were still playing in claret and even had a 2 colour top seperating them from CAFC players.
  • Because both teams were playing away.

    :-)

People moan about Sky calling the shots.
  • Just checked the records ... we actually played six League games after the Cup Final that season.

Tell that to the kids today and they won't believe you.

  • We were a good cup side then, two finals in the decade
  • I thought it was 4 finals with the war cups
  • If I could do it on an iPhone I could attach a photo of one of the winners medals :-)

    But I can't :-(
  • Don't worry about the colour of the shirts.  It's the "Black Knickers" that concern me:

  • And out shirts were allegedly found in a cupboard at the Valley some decades after the final and put on a bonfire

Heard about that before, thats the same mentality as the people at the BBC who rubbed over the tapes of Pete and Dud etc. Sacrilege!
  • probably burnt by the club who were sickened by a charlton team winning something lol
