Dempsey lucky to be on, in my opinion deliberately going up to someone to provoke them and sticking your head right there to the point of contact on several occasions is far worse and a far worse representation of the game than Spearing's tackle - it's arguably a red on interpretation of modern football but that's the problem not a solution
Agree, in which case he wouldn't have scored that goal .
having watched Tommy Smith, Souness and co get away with multiple unpunished gbh over the years, I never thought i'd write these words ... Liverpool woz robbed .. not a bad game .. FULHAM LOOK WELL ORGANISED AND CERTAINLY GIVE IT A GO THOUGH
Thought sending off was harsh but suppose by todays standards the ref can justify it. Whenever I see that ref The Inbetweeners 'friend' moment keeps going through my head!
Just shows how stupid the current red card laws really are.
Senderos brings down Adam on the edge of the box (I thought the foul was inside) and stops a clear goal scoring chance and gets a yellow card. The free kick is wasted.
Liverpool player commits a bad but not outrageous tackle and gets a red card and the balance of the game is tilted.
For mine, a challenge like Senderos’ should be a 10 minute sin-bin or require his immediate replacement for a substitute because Liverpool gained no advantage at all from that decision.
The current laws create cynical choices by players, would Senderos have made that challenge if he knew he would be given 10 mins in the sin-bin?
I reckon Fulham will put out a decent side gainst us but even if they put out their 1st eleven we still have a decent chance imo
Worth remembering that when we were an established Prem team - arguably the same quality as Fulham are now - we played our reserves (near enough) against several Div 3/4 clubs (Orient, Brentford, Blackpool, Rochdale, Yeovil and Exeter come to mind) at home in the FA Cup and pretty much breezed past them all. I think "a decent chance" is overstating it a bit
Okay, so we went behind in a couple of them, but did you really think we were going to lose any of them? Really? I did miss Dagenham off the list which is a different matter.
When we were in the prem I seem to recall us making a right balls up against teams in the lower leagues!
I think we had a pretty poor record in the league cup but the only home FA Cup game I can recall us losing to lower league opposition was against Leicester.
I'm not saying we'll definitely lose, I'm just saying that a depleted Premiership side will be very tough opposition and not the equivalent of a poor championship side that everybody seems to think.
Eg Hogan can't get into the squad of 25 at a QPR team (thrashed 6-0 by Fulham) yet he stated and starred in our biggest game to date this season
Orient at home. 1-1 and there player had to head into an empty net. Missed the chance and we ended up winning 2-1 I think. Hardly breezed past lower league teams in the cup. Wycombe at home. Lost 1-0 but may have been carlin cup.
It was a red card tackle in any decade. No place for it in the game.
You are joking right? Even 10 years ago it wouldn't have even been a free kit. The player clearly won the ball and the was some contact in the follow through, which the fulham player made full use of. In fact the fulham player was already taking off for his crash landing before Spearing even arrived. If the fulham player had shot 3 foot up in the air and then rolled around it would have been a yellow at most.
As stated above, Dempsey should have gone, he all but head butted belemy, and I'm still not sure why belemy got booked, from what I could see it was a combination of Dempsey's complete over-reaction to a fair challenge combined with his reputation proceeding him.
I think watching last night reminded me of how charlton played in the EPL under AC. Fulham are a decent team with a strong squad. Regardless of the XI they field it will be a super achievement for us to beat them!
I think Spearing was taking an unneccessary risk, his trailing leg was a foot off the ground and studs up, you cannot tackle like that anymore, it is irrelevant what was acceptable 15,10 or 5 years ago the referees have to look at the rules today and I can see why he thought it was dangerous.
Dalglish is starting to sound like Wenger, said it wasn't Spearings fault someone was in the way of his follow through, bearing in mind he was making a tackle, it is fairly certain someone else is going to be there otherwise why the hell is he making a tackle!
