I understand that to get your seat in F1, you have to bring some sponsors to the party. Does this apply in football? Has Hamer got richer sponsors than Sullivan?
Think that Hamer has the possibility of going on to be very good. Perhaps CP feels that he might grow with us as we improve and go up in standard. I don't personally feel that Sullivan is going to progress that much further. Decent cover for where we are now but can't see him in our plans if and when we get to where we want to be.
Not sure why you think Sullivan won't progress, SHG - he's only 24.
Yeah but I'm not sure he will ever play at any other level other than league one. 24 is young for a keeper but he should be playing regularly at league one level at that age if he wants the experience to play higher. Can't see him first choice for us now or in future.
well if he is better (which he isn't) it wont be the first time a better keeper has been kept out
in yesterdays programme ben roberts said " in the summer, we identified Hames as our number one target and were fortunate that he believed in our vision and chose Charlton over numerous Championship sides........ most keepers at this level are good shot stoppers but we wanted someone who plays on the front foot, is proactive, reads games and dominates the full 18 yards in the air and on the floor "
We are lucky in having 2 such good goalkeepers. Hamer is more incisive, though sometimes is a bit too ambitious, he's taller and at least as agile as Sullivan, his handling and distribution is better than Sullivan's and to my mind he simply gives out a better vibe of 'I'm in control here' than does Sullivan. I suspect that if Pope settles down, then Sullivan could well be on his way before much longer, he surely wants and needs first team football.
This is what interests me. People will say because Hamer/Sullivan is better than Sullivan/Hamer but i have no idea what they mean or what has formed that opinion. Others may simply repeat what Ben Roberts happens to say. I don't know enough to have an informed opinion and I was hoping for some snippets of wisdom, where is Swizz anyhow?

Okay, try this on for size: most people have seen both players play enough times that they do have informed opinions, and in those opinions, Hamer is the better keeper. That explain it?

For me there's not a great deal between them but Hamer edges it slightly because he is a footballer. I love goalies to look and feel confident on the ball and Hamer does. On top of that Hamers kicking is a real weapon.
I do agree that we'd probably be in the same position with either keeper but I feel Hamer's confidence rubs off onto the defenders.
Sorry you feel it's a silly question Granpa. I merely observe that I can't see why Hamer is prefered to Sullivan, and this forum has always been an invaluable way to pick the brains of people who know what they're talking about. Maybe you already know it all Granpa, but I don't.
Only guessing, but probably because Chris Powell and/or Ben Roberts rate him as a better keeper?
:-)
Think this is more to do with our excellent defence rather than our average goalkeeper.
I agree with Epsom, whoever was lucky enough to start the season would have kept the gig as the defence has made it an easier job than in the past. Would loved to have seen more of Robbie with this line-up.
No expert, but I don't think Sullivan did enough to displace Hamer on Saturday. Probably doesn't help that he never plays behind out usual back 4. Did anyone else think there was a communication problem between him and Cort, or was Cort just slightly iffy at points? Or more likely I just felt nervous at not having Taylor/Morrison.

Don't think there's much between them.

As for who's the better keeper out of Sullivan/Hamer, Hamer speaks fluent German and that's about as close to Manuel Neuer as we're ever going to get.
That swings it for me.
