New boy says hello

edited December 2011 in General Charlton
Hello all! New on here, exiled in York but an Addick to the core. Was a regular at The Valley for most of the 90s, travelling from York every other week. If you read Voice of the Valley I wrote six or seven columns under the heading Nortern Notebook. Primarily used to drink in the Horse And Groom with Mick from Bolton. Was once accused of being undercover old bill after a 2-0 win at Southend tho why the Met would choose a 20 year old with a northern accent to infiltrate the infamous Charlton firm still baffles me! Anyway, even if I'm not remembered I'll still pop up with words of wisdom. . . . . . Body in Yorkshire, heart in SE7 - COYR!

  • Welcome Addickupnorth, thats a good story to kick off with, we have a few Northern posters on here so you will be in good company.
  • Welcome, AUN.  At least you've had a few away games this season.  I'm even further North - in Glasgow - so Carlisle away is my "home" game, though I try to get to the Valley every few weeks too.
  • If your heart is in SE7, you're welcome wherever you come from.
There's a long waiting list for the CL badge though

Well......the first thing we need to establish is, are you or are you not undercover Old Bill, you haven't actually denied it?

  • Greetings.  I'm another Addick in exile in the North Country - but I reside on the other side of the pennines!

Lots of away games in the north this season, which is handy...but I'm really looking forward to being back down south for Christmas and getting down the Valley again as I only get to go to home games once in a while.  There does seem to be quite a lot of us up here now!
  • Hiya, I'm just over the Humber Bridge near Grimsby. Don't often get to London nowadays and try and get to as many northern games as possible. What's this story I read about drilling for natural gas under Bishop Burton? .. It's a lovely spot and I meet a friend of mind there quite often during the summer? .. still, in the present climate 'the north' needs all the industry it can muster

All you poor buggers living up there int North.............now that the winter is slowly drawing in it must be bloody awful using the outside lavvy on these cold winter mornings!
  • Toughens you up, the outside lav. And the tin bath. Not a fan of tripe though.

We should organise a northern exiles beer session at one of the many up north away games next year.
  • Good idea Bryan.

  • Welcome @Addickupnorth

Its ridiculous, I can't remember what train I got yesterday or what I had for dinner, yet I can remember your real name in VotV from twenty odd years ago...
  • welcome mate
  • Welcome!

Horse & Groom brings back memories. Shame it's gone.

  • new here, but have been reading for a while.

used to live on victoria way, 28yrs ago..46yrs old now, fell in love with charlton, hated it when we went to sainsburys in norwood!...moved to wales to marry a welsh family (didnt realize i would be married to them all at first)..then moved back to London in 2001...then moved to the USA in 2002 after spending most of late 2001 in Florida....only been back 4 or 5 times and ALWAYS go to the valley when i do, its like leaving your one true love, have never got over it, but i follow us on here, the official site and on other websites, Its funny, here we have 3 live premier games on saturdays ($10 a month) and at least 1 on sundays, italian german, spanish games live, but just cant get them to put league one on, so Chris needs to get us up just like Norwich!!..

Loving it this season, keep up the good work, wish i was there with you all!! always proud to be  an ADDICK through thick and thin!!
  • Have you received your clique membership invitation yet?
  • Welcome Addick up North and Florida Addick.......looks as though there will be more followers of the match day thread......(remember though its for members only)
  • Eh oop, AddickoopNorth!
  • AddickupNorth seems to have lost his tongue?

  • First of all, just to put SoundAsa£'s suspicious mind at rest can I catergorically say; I never have nor will I ever be undercover, or out-in-the-open Old Bill! So all you South London wideboys and dodgy dealers or you 'nawty' boys relax, breathe out..................;o)
Seriously though, thanks for the welcomes, very warming to the soul. Just glad that there seems to be a few of us in exile so it's not just me who has to feel so close yet so far away. I actually work with two other exiles and my line manager is a dirty Millwall fiend! So say what you want about the North, it seems more and more Londoners are heading to the green and pleasant Yorkshire surrounds. Mind you, it is colder up here, wasn't fun scraping ice off my car at 6.30 this morning.
I'm liking the idea of an exiles meet up for a game and Lincsaddick's suggestion for the Huddersfield game is a beaut. Big game, big crowd. Could we be already up by then or am I being a little premature?
To SE10 - real shame about the Horse and Groom closing, I had many a giggle in there tho not so fun when that little mob of Burnley tried their best to reorganise it's decor. Poor Bill, I can still see his face.
As for OrientalAddicks question if I've been invited into any cliques then no, I haven't. Though to be honest I'm a bit of a lone ranger - roll into town, take care of business then slip away.................
Lastly, if you sir, AFKABartram, can indeed remember my name from a ropey few pages I wrote years ago, then you are a legend!!!!!
  • Welcome mate, like some have mentioned I have to put up with the constant drone of sheff Wednesday fans in my neck of the woods, always good to get ‘home’ for a game.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Also the drunk thread is a must after a few tipples.

Glory boy band-waggonners? Surely not me? Didn't feel like a glory boy standing on the North Bank, Upton Park in crowds of 4000. . . . . .
