    Yes, it's too young. 

    Let him enjoy his football. If he's good enough when it matters he'll be picked up by a club at a much older age - maybe even as old as 8.

    The important thing is, never let it be your only dream. What I mean by that is, I see parents of boys who play football with my son -very nice people -but where the academic side is of no importance to them. When you consider the very small percentage of boys who make it to being signed professionally and then the small percentage of them that go on to be footballers, you realise how misguided that is.
