Indian Flag in North Stand

edited November 2011 in General Charlton
Pointed out to me on Saturday by CatJnr (North Lower to the left of the goal) - Instead of the "Ashoka Chakra" in the centre it had a gold CAFC club badge, which we thought was great.  Has anyone noticed this before or is it a new addition to the Addick hordes  ?

  • You sure it wasn't an Irish tricolour mounted the wrong way?

    That's what I thought!
  • Yeah it's an Irish flag, it's there regularly
  • Or maybe I had my head on it's side.....

I'll have a look next game - I don't normally study the crowd so you're probably right...
  • Bet an Irish flag in the ground pleases some !!  :-)
  • Hasn't there always been quite a few Irish Addicks?  There always used to be quite a few of them around the area, so I suppose it probably just reflects the local demographic.  Having the likes of Deano and Matty Hollands as well as the mighty Kins on board can't have done any harm, either.
  • Put that video to 1 min, is that the flag your talking about?

Mark Kinsella was Irish so 1 out 3 ain't bad.

Robbie Keane made more of that flag on one visit than Holland or Kiely ever did.

  • Just seen the footage by charltonaddickedmatt and it is definitely the Irish National Flag being held up with the flagpole sleeve running down the left of it. Would have been nice to have had some Asian support though!

My mate is an ST holder and is married to a lady of Indian extraction.

    It's a start I suppose!

Almost as much as my Charlton/ Celtic scarf! ;-)

We do mate....see loads of regular supporters of Asian descent at the ground who have been there donkeys of years.
  • I'm half Indian. Years ago used to sit next to another Indian bloke, pretty sure we were the only ones in the ground though!

We do have quite a bit of Irish support. I had two spares for the play off final and sold them to a man and his son who'd come over from Northern Ireland
  • Not sure Northern Irish is considered Irish support, this is the Irish tricolour we're talking about isn't it?

Ha how to get a thread sunk in a sentence ;-)

Northern Irish support is different from Republic Of Ireland Support.

Know quite a few of the Desi family in Charlton who frequent the cons club, been going to Charlton matches for years on & off
