Should I go to Halifax on a freebie - you decide

edited November 2011 in General Charlton

Pro's

1. It's free.

2. Powell & the team want us there to support them.

3. I've never been to Halifax  -  New ground.

4. I support Charlton over land and sea, including Leicester & feel obliged.

Cons

1. I'll have to get up at 5.15am.

2. It's Halifax.

3. It is likely to be a reserve (ish) team including Simon Francis  (sorry Simon) & Gary Doherty (sorry Gary).

4. It's a bleeding long coach journey.

  • Sounds like a bargain to me.  I reckon you'll love it.
  • I would definitely do this if a coach was leaving from near where I live , go for it and have a good day out.
Another Pro is that it is as close to a guaranteed win as we're going to get this season.
  • This is my journey from New Eltham to the Eltham coach pick up point if I was to do it:

N136 from White Horse Hill to Lewisham
N89 from Lewisham to Shooters Hill
122 from Shooters Hill to Eltham

Thats 1hr32mins for a journey that would take me about 15mins normally, plus I'd have a 25min wait at Eltham for the coach :(

walk or get a cab then
  • I only live 4 miles from The Shay - send me your ticket if you're not going :-)  Seriously, ground is a lot better these days, I've only managed to see them once this season but back in the day I went to majority away games in conference winning season.  Halifax loads of pubs and eateries...don't be put off by what you've heard...it's not all true!  My best mate will be in the home end and I'll be in the away end...I'll be the one who don't look tired!
  • Go for it CE. It will give you bragging rights with your crowd for many years.

Good point well made.  3-0  .

It's only three miles so would take an hour to walk. Or if you get down to New Eltham station you can pick up a 321 from there - they run 24 hours.

Or get a cab. Will take 10 minutes. Problem solved.

How about I come round and give you a lift?
  • If i was you i would go but I'm not I'm me and I'm not.
  • You made it to Notts County, Bury, Rochdale and Sheff Utd, amongest others, you don't need to feel obliged. Have a weekend off, have a lie- in, cooked breakfast, Sunday papers and watch it from the comfort of your own armchair. When the muppet northerners sing "Is that all you bring away", laugh and remember hardly any of them turn up at their conference matches week in and week out. When the game is over, you won't have a 6 hour coach journey to get through, before work the next day. Then it's Brentford away to look forward to with 1800 others. Now that's an important game......

  • 4-1 in favour of going so far.

What surprises me Tutt-Tutt is that you appear to be stalking me. I have also made the trips to Stevenage & Wycombe.

You'll have to let me know who you are, as I am cluless. Inbox me if you like, I'm intrigued  :-)

  • I'd be going if I wasnt away. What's to lose!
  • yep if Joe didn't have a game, I would have gone even without free travel.I promised him that whoever we got home or away I would take him, then we get put on bloody sunday at 12.30. Sods law though if we get through and are drawn away to non league again the same will happen.

5-1.    It's the getting up at 5.15 to watch our reserves play in Halifax, when it's on TV. That's what's to lose :-)   6-1.
  • sorry 6-2 Francis will be playing, sod that for a game of soldiers

  • I am now going due to it being free

I'll take that as 7-1 then. I'll see you on the Bromley coach then Louis unless there is a strong overnight swing to the right :-)

Covered End Junior is whimping out !

Good point Nathan. I think you should give the free coach a miss.

It a shame they're not giving us the massive terrace. As for Francis, there's a lot of money in the cup and a giant killing could be bad for moral...

I would go if I was you.

Yup me an Thom will see you there bright and early. I'm at Orient Bromley the day before so I am seeing 2 FA Cup games in 21 hours.
  • Devils Advocate and all that.
  • Devils Advocate and all that.

So who are you Tutt-Tutt ? Inbox me.
  • I went to Northwich

I wouldn't therefore go to Halfiax if you paid me.
  • 6 hours on a coach, early start and doherty playing outweigh any possible positives for me! If we win no one will be excited as it will be expected, if we lose everyone is angry!

I say stay at home have a weekend off then watch on TV as it turns out to be a 5-5 thriller and best game in our history!
  • why dont you pay for it and - then if it is a poxy day you got a right to moan as you have paid your way ....
