Its not a wind up and was proposed a couple of years back by a foreign owner. Apparently its the foreign owners idea again and they want to do it so they make even more money. However even if the owners do vote for this the F.A have the power to veto the decision and they say that they'll never allow it to happen any way.
To be honest, I just wish they'd hurry up and form a European Super League so the big 4 (or however many) f**k off and let our league become competitive again.

The teams in the top division would keep on going to games and that's where ALL of the money is. There would be some outrage of course but things change all of the time in football.

Because it's the most stupidest suggest in sporting history and will lead to a collapse of the game. There are some rich and powerful people outside of the premiership. Can you see them excluding some of the larger teams like Leeds from this new division? Utterly ridiculous and will never ever happen.

Without the promise of premiership riches league teams can have sensible budgets and a competitive league not made uneven by parachute payments.

It's March 2014. The Closed shop is proposed to commence the next season and Charlton are sitting 8th in the Premier league.
Other clubs say if you don't vote for it then you won't be invited. Vote for and be part of it. Vote no and walk away?

What's stopping foreign owners who 'want' this to say, "you either grant us our wish or we leave". All these clubs with huge amounts of debt will simply go bust wouldn't they?
You know you're in trouble when people in football start using terms like 'stakeholder' and quoting the NFL model.
If even one of these foreign owners should express the slightest interest in taking us down that route, they should have their card very firmly marked by the FA.
As much as we deride the FA, I reckon they'd be well on top of this one should it ever seriously look like getting off the ground, as opposed to pure speculation as it is right now. Don't forget that some of the big teams may vote against the prospect anyway- Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, City, Arsenal, they won't care who goes down/up as it won't particularly affect them.

Wouldn't want it even if we were in it. Any system that is entirely closed would become stagnant. Teams at the bottom end would have no incentive to improve. Fans at the bottom end of the league's main thrill is beating the drop. Other than that it's the very occasional chance of giving the ig boys a bloody nose. Even in the (very socialist NFL) the mix of teams changes fairly regularly.

Wasn't the guy from the premier league basically asking the government for help in stopping this becoming a possibility? It would be an absolute travesty. Relegation dogfights are far more entertaining than any top of the table clash.

If this was proposed how are we going to get back in the Premiership? WIll be unfair on those who are out of the Premier League.
