I know one of the youth coaches at Welling and they have a lot of talented youngsters at the lower end of the spectrum u12's where they've been in academies but the parents don't want them to be distracted from their studies. They have one boy aged 11 who scored 74 goals for Arsenal last year but took him out because he's a bright boy and has just gone to a grammar school. Now at Welling banging 'em in. Lives local so may end up at CAFC at some point (hopefully)
Bit cruel that "not on our radar" comment seeing that he's an Addick fan - bet he would take this on board and refuse to play for SCP if we do come in... I just cannot see why this has to be said instead of something more positive like "lets wait and see how he develops..."

If I said I was NOT dissapointed It would be a lie, so better not.

But why lie? Powell was asked and gave an honest answer that at the moment we have better in his opinion.
If Powell changes his mind and does try to sign him then it's up to Parkinson. If he says no off the back of this article then he cutting off his nose to spite his face.
Does Powell need to check every player that he is asked about to make sure that they are not charlton fans, so he can phrase his response properly. Given him a break, he was asked about interest in a player and he said he wasn't end of.
We've got an enormous squad. The fact he's a Charllton fan is neither here nor there.
Also, it wouldn't be unheard of to suggest they're not interested in a player before suddenly trying to sign them. If he said he was desperate to sign the lad and would move heaven and earth to get him then it would be a) breaking the rules and b) increasing the price.

You misunderstand me Henry.......
I am dissapointed, for the reasons given previously, therefore I would be lieing if I said otherwise.
Powell is the manager, so it is his call, who he does or does not sign?.
Having been on a football tour with him and his family, he is very down to earth, but that was a few years ago?
But did not seem the type of person to have an 'attitude'. I think if you read the comments from Welling fans they think he is a decent type and a player who has a bright future in the game?. Probably paper talk anyway, as he has been linked with a couple of clubs previously.
I mention the above as he is someone that I have had known in local football?...... and support the lad.
I am sure Chris Powell will not have a sleepless night because of my comment, or his.
