Stevenage Away day notice

edited October 2011 in General Charlton

Firstly, welcome to Stevenage, i pretty much hope you all
have a good day in and about town but a poor day in terms of results at the ground
:).

That said this is not a boasting post just a post to let you
know that the main car parking is opposite the ground in what is known as fairlands
valley, which currently has a very large fairground the fair  will be open for business on the day of the
match. So those using a car may want to arrive early (fair opens 1pm) to ensure
a  parking place car parking is free.
There is a leisure park very close to the ground but it’s not encouraged by the
club to park in that area, although you can normally.

There are a number of pubs around in town center the closest
one to the ground however  and a CAMRA
pub is the mutual friend there is also the leisure park for your chain based
food stores pizza hut etc.

Anyway hope all 1650 of you come to boro with a smile and in fine voice and leave sad...

  • Welcome, optimist!

Since that car park is gonna be heavin' and I'm not gonna be arriving early have you got any other parking suggestions not too far from A1?

I wish Boro good luck from Sunday onwards.
  • Hi Boroguide, cheers for the info, what can you tell me about the Marquis Of Lorne, thinking of starting in there?
  • Does The Old Mutual Friend have Sky & will it be showing Liverpool v Man U ?

There's no street parking between the ground and the A1 (which is to the West of the ground). That area is full of retail parks, business parks etc.

I've seen the locals park in the nearest retail park (it's called Roaring Meg) for home games, but have no idea if that's in flagrant disregard of any notices. I guess you just have decide if it's a risk worth taking.

Me? I'm going by bike. 12 miles via country lanes but, years from now, I'll have the 'Have you ever cycled to an out-of-London away game' story to tell.

  • Thanks for the heads up, Stevenage. What are your lads playing at with all the timewasting lark?

Would I be right in the assumption that you rely on these tactics to gain points? I hope that isn't the case on Saturday. Or we will let big Yann loose!

  • Does the fairground have dodgems & if so how much are they a go.
  • I'm really looking forward to this one as it's only 10 minutes down the road. I have not been to Broadhall way since the days of Barry Hales , Mark Smith and a young Effe Sodje and never did I ever think Charlton would ever play them in a league match . ( we were 5 divisions apart back then).
I've a few friends who go regularly and they think that Charlton should win comfortably but being an Addick I know things are never that simple.

The Roaring meg retail park, on the left hand side as you come in from the A1M junction 7, the other side which has a shop called The Range is meant to be a little more hot on parking. i have used roaring meg myself a couple of times its been never had a ticket as a large retail park its hard to figure shoppers from non shoppers

it's in the old town, i have not been there in a long while but the old town is full of pubs you can easily move along to the next..
  • Does The Old Mutual Friend have Sky & will it be showing Liverpool v Man U ?
They have sky tv not sure if the match will be on or not, i only watch the mighty boro, and i thought you lot were hard core... :)

Top tip don't listen to Oxford, Chesterfield, and in particular Luton, those under achievers have issues with us over achievers, i can't think why.. oh wait..

bring big Yann on as he will never beat Jon Ashton no one beats Jon Ashton..or robbo or laird or henry or wilson.
  • Does the fairground have dodgems & if so how much are they a go.
yep it s my belief that it is something like £6.50 one time entrance fee and all rides are free, not sure what truth is in that..but that's what i hear.
  • Are the toilets in the Weatherspoons upstairs?
downstairs i think last time i was there i did not make the buggers...
  • oh and one last thing i quickly registered with this username without thinking i am not in any way connected to the boroguide website that is about all things Boro, the man behind that website is far more knowledgeable than me on all things boro possibly on sex as well although that is unproven and not mentioned often.

    .
  • And I'm obviously very bored, so I'll make my apologies and log off!

  • dunno if this has been posted but the clubhouse won't be open to away fans on the day

  • Why have they done this? I think it is a great shame and a revenue loser for them.

  • It would have been under police advisement is my guess the club would not have had much say in it..
  • because the big ugly mob from south london are coming and they dont want their pool balls nicked and big screen ripped up! ;o)
  • because the big ugly mob
    Speak for yourself!
  • Other clubs have let us in with absolutely no hint of trouble

    Opps - nothing to add!

  • Those going by train from Kings Cross may want to note no Northern Line between Camden Town and Kennington via Bank (and London Bridge presumably). No Circle Line either.
