Yann Kermorgant

edited October 2011 in General Charlton

Suprised he started yesterday, I like Hayes, and after the first half was even more suprised Kermorgant started. I've had a quick look through the player marks and he's got a lot of 7's, I can't understand that at all. The whole ethic of our play was different in the first half to the rest of this season, we stopped playing into the feet of the front man, and played long high balls, many have said he won a lot in the air, but how many flick ons went to a red shirt, and how many were picked up by Goodison (who in the first half we made look like Baresi)?

He held nothing up, and for me contributed to the fact that Wright-Phillips had a quiet game, Hayes and Wright-Phillips have an understanding, has anyone watched their banter in the warm ups? Hayes also has more goal threats during a game, many will pick up on the ones he's missed, but I'd rather he was there to miss them than not have a shot at all. Am I right in saying Kermorgant only had the free kick as a chance yesterday?

I would continue brinning Kermorgant on as an impact sub, Hayes won't change a game with 15mins to go, but will contrinute more from the off.

Maybe Hayes was injured from the JPT, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

  • I don't agree with the "if it ain't broke ......"  if you can improve it do so and I was calling for both Green and Kermit.  That said neither of them justified their role yesterday.  It is a long season ahead and CP will need to play different combinations, Hayes has been looking tired recently and could have done with a rest. Kermit and BWP will need game time to get used to how each other play, especially as both will see themselves as the lead striker, only time can tell if it will work.  Yesterday was more an issue wioth the midfield than the strikers
  • In another thread there's a discussion about why it's difficult for us to play at the Valley, maybe part of the problem is that we are becoming predictable and easy to play against because opponents know what the strengths and weaknesses of our players are. Every now and again tactics need to change and evolve to keep opponents guessing. Neither Hayes nor Wagstaff have been in brilliant form over the last couple of matches and maybe the changes didn't quick work as planned, but I like it that CP is prepared to gamble and change.

It was hardly Kermits fault that we started hitting long high balls to him. Yes, his flick ons hardly ever went to a red shirt but thats a bit hard as most of the time only BWP was anywhere near him. I'd probaly guess that the reason he started with him was because he's more effective from crosses, and as we started with Green, Powell probably assumed (as most of us did) that there would be plenty of them flying into the box for him to get on the end of.

I also like Hayes and think that we probably missed his link up play yesterday.

But why single out Kermit? BWP was even less effective, but I think the main culprits were the midfield, who sat too deep for a majority of the game and allowed tranny to push them back, thus isolating the front two.
  • Kermit would be better as competition for BWP i think. I don't see a Kermit/BWP partnership working, too alike. I think Kermit could do a job if BWP was injured (touch wood) or maybe even as a lone striker if we wanted to switch things up and go to a 4 5 1 for an unknown reason.
  • I totally agree with first post, better football with Hayes as we can build the play off him. Tried to look for the punt forward far too often yesterday and looked a lot poorer for it, surprised that Powell went this way as I though it was pass and move all the way this season. I think Yan will be an asset but obviously not yet as he's needs more coaching with the team to play together.

  • Cormorant probably forced his way into the team with his 2 away goals. I wish he wouldn't dive and feign injury so much.

  • It's true that playing Kermorgant resulted in more hoofball but that's not his fault. He did what he was able to do well throughout the game and that's why he got a decent mark from myself.
  • What i liked about kerms on sat was after we scored he grabbed the ball and ran to the centre circle wanting to get on and get a winner not jumping on jj like he had just scored the fa cup wining goal, think he wil be a great signing in time.
  • Think Kermit should be an impact sub
  • Kermit was much better second half as he looked to pull the ball down more rather than just flick it on.  He's very decent on the deck and linked play better and better as the game went on.  I'm still not sure what Hayes did to deserve being dropped, but I think Kermit will prove to be a better player all round.

  • Funny really because I thought he was out best player by some distance and I know that the people sitting around me thought the same!
  • Can't find him on FIFA 12!

    Any ideas?
  • Great knock down for BWP at the end, BWP should have finished!

Are you referring to a Cormorant - or a quick Shag?
  • From what I have seen I thought he played well on Saturday. Lots of nice flick ons. He really is good in the air.
  • I wasn't at the game but listened to the commentary on R5 - which I know doesn't give me the right to comment, but I shall anyway.

Tranmere have had the same tactics every time they have come to the Valley in L1 - crowd the midfield, hit us on the break and waste time. Perhaps CP thought a more direct style would beat these tactics, it didn't but it was worth trying. From the games I have seen this season it seems our good play comes through the midfield and when teams crowd us out we fail - Tranmere, Sunthrope, MK Dons. We need a Plan B which would have worked on Saturday if BWP had scored from Kermit's knock down but again you can't blame BWP as he can't score very chance. Obviously plan B needs some work but that doesn't mean that Kermit shouldn't start some games, CP just needs to get the right tactics for the right games - no problems then?
  • I personally think he headed the ball to much. there were times when he could have bought it down instead of head it to nobody. I think he'll be much much better than Hayes if he holds the ball up more.
  • Can't find him on FIFA 12!

    Any ideas?
Do the squad update & he is added to CAFC!

Just watched the interview on player with Yann after the Wycombe game...............

Says this is the best season in his entire career and states how much he loves it here. I know players tend to say these things but I truly believe he is 100% sincere when talking about us.

I'm beginning to worry about the amount of man love I have for this guy.................

  • I think I love him...
    There, I said it...
  • i think he is just a fantastic find by scp ,i think he s gonna be a great player for us next year ,the fans identify with him and he has a fantastic attitude ,very rarely comes off injured or is substituted .If i were to be just a bit too optimistic i even think he has the ability to play for us in the premiership

Unfortunately, that will only happen if we were to go up next season as his age would go against him....................

disagree - the role he plays, he could do that for another 4/5 years yet. If i were a prem manager i would be in for him this summer - luckily, i'm not!

Yep the guy is class , he could be 25 for all i care, would prefer him over Heskey any day of the week!

Heard on the radio today ,Heskey has over 500 Premier League appearances and is in the top 6 for all time prem match appearances... unbelievable Geoff!

Would love to see Yann playing in the top flight (For us!)
  • I've said to a few people, Yann Kermorgant is the best player in League One. Can't be far wrong with that statement, what a player, genuine quality.
  • Kermo, Solly, Wiggins, Morrison, Hollands and possibly Hamer were all the best in their positions in league 1 for me this season and the others weren't far behind with JJ being Captain of the year in league 1 for not only being a good bloke but pulling off vital and inspirational bits of quality when the team most needed it. CP, manager of the year, no question.

what is obvious is his desire and hunger ! he spent a lot of his earlier football years with a terrible illness the strength and determination that got him through that challenge is clear to see now ...i think he has the will/desire to play for a lot longer ,he s making up for lost time ...

  • He is a fantastic player, without a doubt. Great in the air, skillful, brillaint at free kicks, intelligent. I also think there are more goals in him.
