92 Grounds Football Charity Challenge

edited October 2011 in General Charlton
Going to try to do this for an MRSA charity since my mum has had this since i was born and recently had her leg amputated.

Would apprecriate any donations or word of mouth coverage you could give this.
Very early days yet as you can imagine because its going to take a lot of planning for travel etc.

Was also wondering if anybody on here would help me to get this message to the club itself as i feel that doing this would also help my cause.

Like i said.. early days but any help, suggestions, support or contact you can provide me with at this stage would be great.

Many Thanks

  • Firstly you need to register a justgiving website. Set dates then ask the club to advertise in the programme.

You need to have a bit more detail than thinking your going to do something. Great idea but you need a set plan before you can even start asking for money.
  • Get it set up and arranged and I can help you with contacting the club although staff read this site anyway.

Agree with Curb-it that you need to firm up details first before asking for money or publicity.

First off, what's the 92 grounds football charity challenge? Is there a website you can link to.

Hope you mum is doing OK
  • I think the challenge is to visit all 92 grounds within a single season. Good luck!
  • I''m planning on visiting them all in a month next summer - not to see a game but just get pictures at all 92 to prove i did it!

  • Plenty of time to plan it out then.

2 things to think about if you haven't already. If you're fundraising for a particular Charity you need to speak to them. You need their permission to use their name but they should also be able to give you advice and tips.

Also how are you going to get around the country and how will you fund petrol, overnight stays, public transport?

Good for you for having a go at something that's not easy.
  • I plan to contact MRSA Action UK this evening if possible. Obviously it will take me along time to plan however i anticpate that i will be able to do all clubs in london over one day on a travelcard for instance. With regards to the other grounds my Dad will accompany me although at this stage we are undecided on how to get to places like Carlisle and Manchester etc. Unsure with regards to funding these travels at the moment, already have a private Facebook event and have around 75 people attending and many more that have yet to respond to the event invitation already ensuring me personally that they will donate. Aswell as family memebrs and obviously my mum's friends i would anticipate the cost of travellling not to be a problem?
  • Just contacted them and have an email address. One of their collegues will help me to set up a just giving page and i asked about advertising through CAFC and he said thats wonderful. Will let you know more details ASAP henry?
  • Good stuff
  • Here's some thoughts:

    - Contact your local press to see if they'll do a story.
    - Why not ask some businesses if they can help in return for wearing their logo.  Try to get your picture in the paper with your sponsors' logos (see above)
    - If you are planning on using public transport, why not contact train and bus companies to see if they can help with free/cheap tickets.
    - If driving, are there any petrol companies that will help - or garage chains to keep your car serviced?  Will Moto or someone feed you at their service stations?
    - Contact the clubs in advance.  Any opportunity for a photoshoot - get a picture in their local paper.  Any chance of getting on the pitch?  Meeting players (unlikely in the summer months, I know), meeting the club mascot, wearing their kit (not at Palace or Millwall obv.) etc.
    - Speak to the Guinness book of Records.   Is there a record for the quickest tour of 92 grounds?  If so, what is it?  Could you beat it?  What proof do you need?

  • All really good stuff guys thanks :) will look into all of these over the coming months. If you feel you could help me in anyway through advertising and gaining sponorship please let me know.

  • Might be worth contacting local press in some areas. You might find that if you get to an area they might have a reporter drive you to the local grounds eg in north east.

Or there may be good samaritans - maybe even on this site who will drive you to a btach of grounds once you get to the local area.

One question if you do it in the summer who will go to - the teams promoted or those just relegated.

Good luck we'd all like to be kept informed

For anyone who wants it here is my just giving page : http://www.justgiving.com/Alex-Stedman.

I will go to the teams that were in League Two and relegated this season. Not the newly promoted teams
  • If you come to Crawley, give me a shout and I'd gladly pick you up from the station and take you to the ground and drop you back

    Good luck
  • Thanks CA. To all those who have expressed an interest thank you.

The bottom line is i dont want any donations until i have planning of travel, accomadation and costs are all sorted - and i am still in the early stages of planning all three.

  • Also, i'd like to make it unique eg. have something that i take to every ground when i get my picture.

If anyone has any sensible ideas please feel free to suggest them
  • I googled this and saw that last year a family were trying to do it in 92 hours!
Is that even possible? couldn't see if they achieved it or not.

well done for doing this and all the best!

  • Given that Edwina Curry is a patron of the charity MRSA Action, why not have a curry at every ground?

He may need to be referred to the jogging thread after completion....
