I'm doing this starting tomorrow - the first of 3 Saturdays on the bounce (and yes, i will be missing two home games - sods law - had we been doing badly it would have been a nice distraction). Anybody else been on it / what did you think?
i know it's unbelievable to think that somebody as knowledgable about, and respected in, the world of football does not already have the full array of badges, but it's true, so any info will be appreciated. I've heard the first day is all theory and therefore a full array of umbro will not be required?
I assume this is forward planning by you for when you hang up your boots, Danny Hollands must be breathing a sigh of relief knowing his place is safe in centre midfield :-)
my boots are pretty much hung up. It's the teacher that i feel sorry for - having a legend sitting there judging everything he says - i may have to go in disguise.
nice one mikey, think i might have my hair bleached, partially shaved and fanned out in all directions as well just so there's no doubt as to whats what.
Dan, I did my L1 at Sparrows with Sean a few years back.
Sean has coached all of our big youth products in his time, but is a modest guy and a top bloke.
It is an enjoyable course - not too taxing !
When it comes to the practical, remember to set out your area for ALL of your drills before you start - you cannot stop your practical to rearrange cones etc etc, just use all the space you need and move the players around as necessary.
I'm a level 2 currently doing my uefa b licence, level 1 if you fail you should look at a different career option or past time. Level 1 is turn up and pass!
Spent the morning learning about child protection and then a bit about childrens attributes at various ages etc. Sean Daly (Ken Dodd) and Barry Simmons - Both knowledgeable and good at what they do - most of the learning you do on your own via the DVD's and folders / homework they hand out. Was out of there by 1.30pm and made it to the Valley. I think by the end of the 3 week course i will be much wiser for it. Not difficult but i can see the benefits to all for doing it. Watched a bit of the under 18 match in the break - we've got a big tall black defender - must be 6 foot 8 but looked like he could play - could certainly play a long ball - could be a real asset if he can play the short stuff as well.
grass-roots footie cannot function without adults giving up their free time.
Keep it up mate.
thanks - will do - i've managed an adult side, ran various five a side teams and helped out with both my kids sides and my nephews sides and have been going to training sessions myself as a player since about the age of 8 so as far as the 'practical' experience is concerned I'm pretty much there but it's always nice to learn new stuff. One of the managers of my eldest (under 12) side left in the summer and i was asked to fill the gap and it's a requirement of my boys side that i have the level 1 award.

That'll be Semi Ajayi, he's a 2nd year so 17/18 and will be hoping to win a pro deal for next season. Might even go on loan in non-league at some point this season, as Mambo did at that age.
done it during the school holidays, iv just left secondary school. was okay i guess, pretty pointless first two sessions, first one was first aid, really big bloke sat on two chairs and just rambled on about CPR. you need to know it to pass but its just time consuming. child protection is the biggest load of bollocks iv ever witnessed, 3 hours of sitting there and someone rambling on about children. you would swear he was a pedo. theres no test for the child protection, so i dont see the point in doing it? and lastly the coaching, very basic, and slightly biased, very easy to pass, aslong as you dont make a fool of yourself, youve passed. easier said than done eh
however i did this 3 months ago and no certificates have come through in the post, about any of them and iv applied for my level 2 with the same guy so i have passed. very strange.

Child protection a load of bollcks??
Would you care to explain what you mean? First Aid pointless? I'm sure the parents of any potential club you coach at or manage would't agree. Child protection is there for a reason. To protect children from mums, dads,& supporters who are over aggressive, and to ensure that no child comes to harm whilst practicing the sport they enjoy playing, including being mentally or physically abused. If you have not recieved your certificates yet email The FA - OnlineCourseQuery@TheFA.com and give them the course dates and course number.
Just another note, you may have a shock if you think you can just turn up to your level 2 course and pass.....
no, i'm not really that into it and to be honest, i think a lot of it is common sense - it's just a requirement of the club to have level 1.
