Who will play on saturday

edited October 2011 in General Charlton

I know it got a brief mention on the match thread but who is going to play against Tranmere on saturday?  We only played 5 first teamers yesterday which means 6 of last nights team have to play against Tranmere, thus at least one change. Green may well stay in but so must Waggy if we are to obey the paint pot rules (unless we are gonna take a fine).  Does that mean BWP is out - I hope not! Or Hollands maybe which is why he tried Alonso. If it is Hollands then Jacko will play in the middle with Green and Waggy wide.

The only other option is that Solly or Wiggins is injured - Chris Powell implied that the team had a few knocks.  If it is one of the FB's I'd rather it be Wiggins than Solly as Evina as cover is much better than Hughes.

Stand to be corrected but cant see it any other way.

I would I've to see Green replace Waggy but I can't see him changing a winning team.
  • if it was Hollands then I'd rather see a midfield of

    Green  Jackson  Stephens  Evina

  • I think Doc should replace Taylor
  • evina no where near it at moment
  • I think Doc should replace Taylor

Agree  Doc in for Morrison and Hughes to replace the weak link Solly
  • I would to Bedsaddick.  But if he were to do that then he would fall foul of the paint pot rules over 6 players from the previous or next league game!  So there must be another change. And I'm worried it means a key player, BWP, Hollands or even Solly(man of the season so far) is injured.
  • I think Doc should replace Taylor

Good shout Henry, I forgot Solly hiding out there on the flanks

Alonso is a shoe in too.

Sorry, I can only take the piss for so long :-)

  • Last night's performance was abysmal and I found Powell's selection somewhat surprising. So it'll be back to basics for Saturday: Hamer, Solly,  Morrison, Taylor, Wiggins, Green, Hollands, Stephens, Jackson, Wright-Phillips, Hayes
  • Not sure what you mean by surprising, Lincs .......could you enlarge a little, please?

    Ooo Errr Oggy

I'll tell you mine, if you tell me yours ....

IF I had been selecting the side I would have kept the defence intact except for the keeper. The defence needs all the togetherness and group practice it can muster.  Hollands needed a rest after his 3 happy events and got it, I would have tried Smith and Kermogant up front , an area which was VERY weak last night with Wagstaff and Hayes, neither of whom is primarily a 'main' or consistent goalscorer, I would have had Hughes in the Hollands midfield defensive role alongside Stephens, with Green and Jackson on the wings to supply crosses for Kermogant and Smith. Last night, Green had no-one to aim at.   I appreciate Powell needed to try out Alonso, who was a disaster, but at least now we know that he needs to pull his socks right up. We also know that Hughes as a reserve right back is a no go and that Doherty who I admire(d) as a player is now a little past it. We also know that Sullivan needs to improve his kicking though how much of that was down to a windy night I don't know.  ....  IF Pritchard had been fit I would have played him instead of Hughes in the Hollands role as I feel that Pritchard could well come very good this season. I am disappointed not just at losing but how AGAIN the start was awful and only after a probable1/2 time bollocking did the team appear to get it's collective finger out. Let's hope that last night was just a nasty blip that needed purging.

Not quite right there regarding 6 of yesterdays team have to play on saturday. The rule is that 6 players that started in the match before or the match afterwards must start in the pot cup.

As 5 featured last Saturday that leaves just one more to fulfill.

So, in effect, we could name a line-up that only features Green for example that played in last nights game.

Or we could name the normal lineup and accept a fine.
  • Well. The fact that only five were named yesterday would leave me to believe Powell has already made his mind up as to who will start on Saturday.

Would be very irrisponsible to pick up a fine for the sake of it. Otherwise, why not do what Smegson done and start with (for example) Wiggins, and replace him with Evina after 5 minutes?

So for that reason I'll put my money on Green to start.

Anyone wanna bet me a pint on that?

    I hope your right.
  • I hope you're right too. Thanks for the clarification - I couldnt find the exact rules on the JPT website.
