Wagstaff up front

  • Chris Powell picks him to start regularly in a team that is top of the League. His moaning is only surpassed by some posters on here
  • To be honest, I find the maoning amusing. It was funny when Robbo did it and it's funny now. I think with Kermorgant around Green would be the best option to put the ball on Kerm's head and to whip them in low for Bradley to feed off. Waggy's a great option to have though, we're lucky to have the competition.
  • Not sure why waggy deserves such derision, think hes a good young player, not the most technically gifted but will run for 90 mins and plays with passion (even though not always the end product).  Still think hes offered a hell of a lot to us this season in terms of workrate, goals and a couple of assists.  Maybe he didnt have the best game up top for us today but considering thats not his usual position and many players behind him were shocking... he should without a doubt be in and around our first team all season.

Pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter too. Find it very strange that people are calling for Green to get a run in the side based on last night's showing. Neither Green nor Waggy had a great game but for some reason Green gets a free pass despite playing in his preferred role rather than out of position like Waggy. Do me a favour!

Some fans just aren't happy unless they are slagging off their own.

Rob Elliot used to be the scapegoat now he's gone Waggy is the next logical choice.

Solly seems to be Golden Bollocks at the moment (Waggy's contribution to that being conveniently ignored). However if Waggy goes too he is next in line!!

  • I think your totally wrong. I can't see Waggy being a scapegoat at all it's just that he has been going missing a lot recently ( especially away ) and we have an exciting winger waiting to step in.
If you want to talk scapegoats look no further than Hughes or Alonso. Neither have played a full league game yet and the boo boys are clearing their throats.

To whoever said Solly is the next scapegoat: No he isn't. He's played brilliantly this season.

A lot of people think Green should play ahead of Wagstaff, myself included. These same people still rate Wagstaff, they just think Charlton will play better with Green in the side. Hardly a scapegoat!

Read some of the comments on here and it's clear that some of the Greenites don't rate Waggy at all. Apparently he's slow, only scores one or two goals, never heads the ball, can't take a man on and can't cross. And if Waggy is dropped for Green, and Solly is left exposed as a result I'm sure they'll be on his back too.

Out of curiosity who said he's slow, only scores one or two goals, never heads the ball,  ?

as for taking a man on ,  he's lousy. Solly does a better job of that. No one here is a "Greenite" whatever that is ,  its just that wet would like to see what he can do,
  • Waggy needs to do more. He can't play poorly like he does so often and get away with it like he has done for the last two seasons, the two seasons where he has had no competition for the right winger posiition. Green will be straight in there if he carries on underperforming. Simple as really.

And whoever suggested he play left mid, why don't we play him in goal? I mean you can't accommodate a player into a team. Espcailly into a position where we have our captain, and one of our most frequent goalscorers and not to mention the assists, plays. So we remove JJ to give waggy another chance?

Take a look through the Waggy v Green thread. Some of the comments on there are frankly laughable.

Well if someone says he's slow then that is ridiculous but because he is quite quick , it's even more frustrating that he does not have the skill to go past defenders. He's goalscoring ratio or has never been in question.
  • i think he could do O.K upfront but not with Hayes as you could clearly see they had no under understanding of what the other was doing.

Bringing the thread back to its original point... Hayes and waggy aren't going to work well together, it just doesnt fit. I think Waggy and Kermit could work quite well together. Not sure about that even though. He can do a job in that position best at the end of the game when everyone else is tired and he still has his (almost unending) energy levels comparatively up. At the end of the day though, he doesnt have an awful lot of practice there and people should give him a break just generally. The kids been having a good season, yes Green is waiting in his wings, and he'll get his chance. We can judge properly who is the superior player when Greens had more than substitute appearances at the end of teh game.
