Most London teams in prem or old 1st div

Was chatting with mate trying to remember one most london games we must have played in one season then two
higest number of london teams in any one season in top flight we gave up as memory useless anyone have a clue

Being a stats weirdo, I can tell you the season 1989-1990 was the one with most London teams in the old 1st division: 8

Spurs 3rd,  Arsenal 4th, Chelsea 5th, Wimbledon 8th, Q.P.R 11th, Palace 15th, Charlton 19th and Millwall 20th.

When we were in the premium I think we played Chelsea, Arsenal, West ham, Fulham, Palace, Spurs that's only 6 but that's not a bad return from one city

Talking of London teams, what's your view of Watford?

I tend to class them as a London team because they are located well within the M25 London Orbital Motorway and they have a London Underground station.

But technically, they are in Hertfordshire.

They're not a London team. I would probably allow Brentford and Barnet though.

Brentford and Barnet are clearly London teams, especially Brentford which isn't much further out of town than us. THEMCA - West Ham and Palace weren't up the same season - the one year Palace were up and we sent them down, they had beaten West Ham in the play off final the year before to win promotion

Watford fans don't consider themselves  Londoners and their big rivals are Luton.  Barnet and Brentford are unquestionably London.

This reminds me of the old triva question:  "when did Essex have 2 clubs in the top division" (i.e. Prem or old Div 1)?

 

 

 

 

 

 

The answer is 1962, when both W Ham & Orient were in Div 1.  before 1964, both of these were still in Essex

yes but only because the Post Office lives in the past and believes that Middlesex still exists...it's in the London Borough of Hounslow

Until around 1899 when the London County Council were formed and original postcodes were designated, I do believe West Ham was in Middlesex. Same as Brentford.

Off topic, but I liked the question ''When was the hottest October temperature recorded in March'', March being the town with the highest October temperature until Gravesend beat it this week.

As I live in Gravesend, I've often wondered why it's so frequently listed as the hottest place in the country. I'm told it's because the guys who measure are based there on the thames (something to do with the port authority or something on the riverside). As this equiptment isn't based in every town, this give Gravesend the advantage over the likes of Dartford or Chatham which might actually be hotter.
