edited October 2011 in General Charlton
Didnt really know what to name the discussion but basically my band released our first song yesterday and its been a big hit (600 plays in 24 hours on facebook and near 200 on youtube in 9 hours) so could you listen to it and provide some feedback- its probably not to the taste of many on here but its still good to get reviews from everyone- many thanks

i tell you what mate, for what my opinions worth anyway... i couldnt fault it really for that style of music (youd go down well at a skate/snow boarding show) well put together track that. good vocals and instrumentals were very polished and clean... i liked it!

good luck to you lads for the future.

  • Hey,
Had a listen and my feeling is that the vocals aren't strong enough, im being totally constructive with what I say here- no agenda or beef, just trying to give you what you need!
If you're serious about this then I suggest take a step back and a slight detour, the structure is too predictable, can see the changes coming: those unidentifiable things that make a band great live rather than people wandering off during the second song- throw some oddities in where you would just repeat- there's too much 4 bars of everything ( just tap your foot 16 times and it's a chord change).

I really know how negative I am, but you need constructive criticism, it's what honest music is all about, as you ate you'll be chewed up and spat out at any support slot for a decent metalcore/screamo/alternative touring band ( I assume your aspiring to support you're fav bands, believe me the crowds are merciless- the press, if there, even worse), so you have to be ready to destroy.
"this ain't no playing games now boy!"

Seriously, good luck, keep us posted!

    Onwards... And upwards.
  • Cheers, yeah i know constructive criticism is always better- but we'll definiately take the suggestions into our practices etc. It is a hard business to break into- especially as the style of music isnt very mainstream/popular but we do have the belief we can go all the way.

    thanks guys
  • The hard thing with metal is it isn't mainstream but the fans are more fickle and sheeplike than any JLS fans!
(I say this as someone who makes their living this way).
If you want to succeed you gotta destroy.
  • This is a good opportunity to ask a heavy (ish) metal vocalist why he thinks it necessary to start growling half-way through what I may otherwise consider an acceptable (if not to my taste) song. As soon as I heard the typical growling begin I turned it off.
  • I'm guessing it's another band member doing that bit?
But agree, these days if you do that, it has to be truly exceptional- there's some real freaks of nature doing it!

Isn't it? Along with all the pop RnB, it's all you seem to hear on the radio or MTV these days.

Not digging at you lads as you sound okay, but you need something extra to stand out from the crowd.

Can't stand the screaming like a 40 a day asthmatic that they all seem to do but my 16 yr old son does and I'm sure that's the audience you're aiming for, not his 44 yr old dad, so I'll go now..............
  • I originally thought this thread was about kermy!
  • if you dont like the 'growling' then its not to your taste, but there are a fair few amount of people who do love/like this music and in my opinion- its what makes the song just that little bit better- thanks for all the input though- we're not trying to sp*nk out songs every other week like most chart artists do (note that i do say MOST, not all)- this song in particular took us ages to complete (months) as we kept adding new bits and taking out that which we didnt like, and we honestly love the song to bits, but as i said, its not for everyone
