On Saturday I'll be in the posh seats (well as posh as they get at Spotland) as myself, members of my family and some Rochdale fans we know are taking up a sponsorship package.
The background to this concerns a friend of ours who knows some London based Rochdale fans. While we were in the social club at Spotland last year we decided that if the two teams were in the same division the following season we'd sponsor the game up there.
We get our faces in the programme and we'll probably be on the pitch before the game as well. Following that its hoped that there'll be a few 'sitting on hands' moments for us as the Addicks crash a few goals in and get the win that keeps us top.

we've got similar budgets so it's only fair
If it really matters to you we're thinking of sponsoring the return fixture and seeing as there's six of them and four of us we'll get more money from them than they do from us.
A smaller club in our division that have had nothing ever handed to them and have worked bloody hard to get to League 1
I'd rather put some money towards them than a Huddersfield or Sheffield club
Jesus wept.
We had a good chat to Jason Euell and Chris Powell in the tunnel after the game. In the bar our party got to present the man of the match trophy and there was a nice gesture to one of our Rochadle counterparts 8 year old son who got the job of handing the trophy over to David Ball, scorer of Rochdale's 2nd goal.
We left to visit a local hostelry and met Addickted Addick and some of his friends who was most impressed with what we'd done.
Finally, here is a commenorative plaque given to us by the club to mark our match sponsorship. The name we went under says it all as on the day we were 'Friends of Football'.
So what did JE and CP have to say?
Powelly was pleased to see us and gave Mum a big hug and a kiss. He's obviously delighted with the start but as all managers do he said that there's still a long way to go and lots can happen on the way.
Got to say it was one of the best days supporting the Addicks that I and Mum & Dad have ever had. Even the missus enjoyed it but I think that was because she got to see Waggy up close and in the the flesh!
"Martyn,
My comment on the thread about you sponsoring the
Rochdale game was both churlish and very uncalled for. I apologise for
any offence it caused you. I know that you and your parents are
fantastic supporters of Charlton Athletic and very nice people to boot.
It was great what you did and forming friendships between supporters of
other clubs can only benefit football in general whilst as you say
helping teams like Rochdale survive. Once again apologies.

That's fine with me and I've gone back to him saying all is OK with us.
M,
Good to see you and your clan in the Moorcock on Saturday - what a great bunch of 'real' supporters The Dale lads were. Good to have a laugh and a joke over a pint or two and I'm pleased the day was all you could have wanted. The plaque was a very nice touch
Let me know what you're doing for the rematch.
