Writing about not being at Carlisle, but still trying to follow what was happening, made me think about this - what are your stories of the big matches you didn't make it to? Why weren't you there? How did you follow what was going on?
That season,we played Fulham away towards the end of the season and won 3-0,well i didn't have teletext, and it wasn't on radio 2 as it was then,so i had to wait until 9.30 and try and find result out from L.B.C..it was painful
I missed three games from our first Prem season, including 2 home games, what a muppet - I wasn't thinking about the 100%.. one of the home games was against Villa with the famous streaker and a certain Gareth Southgate. I am not saying I missed seeing the streaker incidentally...
Weegie will be able to relate to this...The only match I missed in the 1986/87 season was WHU away when Jimmy Melrose scored his goal after 7 seconds. The reason I missed the match was because it was my Dad's Masonic weekend in Worthing, he was head Buffalo that year, and if I didn't go along to that weekend then my Mum and Dad were going to disown me and never speak to me again. In fact, I do believe it was that weekend where Weegie's Dad met his future wife (My Aunt). All together now...Ah

Wasn't allowed to go to the original play-off final against Leeds, so ended up listening to it on the radio, with Dad wearing his "lucky hat". Then stayed up to watch the highlights on ITV, and got increasingly narked at how biased towards Leeds John Helm was.
Mine was the play-off final replay at St Andrews. We'd just had our first boy and I was listening to the radio next to him. He had a 'I'm potty about Charlton Athletic' bib drapped over him and I've still got a photo somewhere. He was born 21st May so it can't have been long after that?
I reckon the Leeds one there will be quite a few people who regret not going.
Two for me, the 4-3 up at Newcastle, i done virtually every away game apart from that one.
The other was Dennis in the last minute at Selhurst. Was in two minds, had a mates kids' christining in the morning so knew there would be a few out for a beer in the afternoon, and also part of me refused to give them £35 for a live Sunday game, felt like we were being mugged.
About 30 seconds after that goal i would of paid ten times that to have been there....
Continuing the more recent theme, i had to blow out a (home end) ticket from a ex-collegue at the Spudz away game that Richard Rufus made his return with that tackle.
Even the most bitter and twisted (and i know a few!) spudz fan has to admit the class of it!
I also missed the Leeds one. Was at uni, and had two final exams the next day, and no transport to get there and back. Listened on my own in my room on the radio. Just after Leeds scored, someone came banging on my door - I thought it was going to be gloating Leeds fans, but it was a female friend, who wasn't into football. I was so upset, as I really didn't believe we'd be relgated. I turned the radio off and made us a cup of tea. A bit later, another banging on the door - this time, surely, the gloating Leeds fans - then it burst open and a couple of good mates came flying in chanting 2-1, 2-1, 2-1. Couldn't believe I'd turned off the radio!!!

Yes, it must have been that very weekend...

Just wished i'd seen, and heard, it live. :-(
