Slater is a very level headed man as befits a fund and property manager. His Charlton association is more financial than emotional. That's good and means that sentiment and passion will have little influence in his decision making.
Top bloke, Have no problem with him being a City fan either, I hope their fans are rewarded with glory for the pain that (like us) they have had to endure!
I don.t mind him being à city fan just want him to get us up
This. It's actually quite refreshing to have a chairman who will openly admit to being a fan of a different club. I can't stand it when managers, players or executives pretend to be lifelong fans. It's a job. If you happen to be at your own club then that's a bonus. Don't pretend!
I must say that it makes me a little uneasy - if a player or a manager supports another team, fair enough - they're professionals doing a job. Same as me liking Vauxhall cars, but having worked for Ford and now Toyota. Different for a chairman though, maybe - it's not a job, it's more than that.
Perhaps his lack of previous affiliation for us could be a good thing in the long run - less chance of heart ruling the head and not spending money we can't afford etc.
What I picked up up from the article that Mr Slater is a massive Manchester City with a Man City season ticket. I knew he supported Man City but I now fully understand how much he loves City. The club you support is like a birth mark and you should never switch. Myself, I will never support any other club than Charlton.
Also when he leaves Charlton, it will be in a better state than when he found it.
Nice to see a nearly positive article in the standard, even if it was slightly condescending, and Charlton are oh so lucky and that our chairman supports Manchester City. Oh yeah, Chris Powell is a decent bloke that will buy some time for the owners, because they may need as they are building slowly (and not putting in massive amounts of cash). We may be stuffed as a club, if we don't get promoted in say about 3 to 4 seasons (as our mystery backers may get fed up by then). But try not to worry about that for now as hopefully we will get promoted before then. No pressure then.
By the way, Michael Slater supports Manchester City, just in case you didn't know (well done that journalist, I think we got that).

Mr Slater did say he'd try to fit in an interview for CL sometime after he's run the New York Marathon so watch this space.
His financial input will ensure he is always professional.........!

It hasn't happened very much in the past 10 years.
