What's your Hobby?

  • Sad as it is I really don't have a hobby.  I guess you could say work?!

I am heavily involved in my fathers 3 companies so don't get a great deal of free time - when I'm not working I'm reading CAFC related stuff or being a husband /father

I do occasionally dust off my PS3 controller but even that's even less frequent now
  • I enjoy researching Family History. It's also generated an interest in history generally as I can now relate my own ancestors to events of the past.
  • If you exclude this site and occasional pub visit, I currently don't possess a single hobby. Pretty sad state of affairs
  • Running - more like an addiction than hobby.  Race 5K, 8K 10K & half marthons.  Not tried the full 26.2 yet, but thinking about NY in 2012.
  • Golf, Road Cycling, Charlton...

Golf is VERY sociable... Keep it up.

    Used
to have private pilots licence and fly out of Manston, 4 heart attacks
later not allowed to fly any more so I took up woodturning a couple of
years ago and because I am now pretty much retired spend quite a bit of
time down my garage turned workshop. Now sell a few on ebay under the
name of Pitbull01uk. Great for presents for those that have
everything.... If anybody wants further pics, let me know and will get
them to you. Couple of examples of work below:-

    your
work is very very good and must bring you a lot of pleasure. Did you
see the recent TV series 'Britain's Next Big Thing', a reality TV BBC
series attempting to encourage companies to buy from British inventors,
artisans and minor entrepreneurs?......  The point?... Libertys (off
Regent Street/Oxford Circus) bought a series of wooden artefacts,
similar to yours,  from a hobbyist and planned to sell them for several
hundred quid. I didnt see the final programmes(s) so am not sure of the
    eventual outcome.

Thanks for your kind comments. No did not see that programme you are talking about unfortunately, i basically do it as a hobby not as a business but do sell pieces at pretty much cost price because i enjoy it so much.
  • Yes very nice stuff pitbull.
  • Really impressed by the photos and the woodturning. How much do you seel yoru pieces for Pitbull, not much of an ebayer but I might have a look.

I flit between hobbies. Always love cricket and reading (fiction and history). Was seriously into poker for about 5 years but gave that up a few months ago because I'd got bored of it and had stopped making enough money to overcome the boredom.

why sad?, maintaining and keeping good order on here must be nigh on a full time hobjob (new definition when a job becomes a hobby and vice versa)

  • As said elsewhere spending the day with my wife at a show somewhere trying to win a 2 bob rosette has given us more fun than any game of golf or football has done at anytime in my life.

  • Hey Jints
My prices start from about £5 up to £70-£80. As for ebay, i put a load of stuff on in one go for a week or so and then leave it for a couple of weeks, find that works really well for me. If your ever after anything or want to see what i have available just mail me and i will get back to you.
    Many thanks for your comments.
  • I'm into astronomy, particularly anything to do with the Apollo program. As a connected issue, I have a couple of books of paintings by Alan Bean (fourth man on the moon) and I hope to become the proud owner of one of his paintings next year (a very small one). I love planetariums and was scandalised when Madame Tussauds closed the London one!

For the brewers out there I used to home brew before I started professionally: main thing is to make sure your fermentation doesn't get too warm! Any other tips will cost! Oh, and cleanliness is king.

I´ve been fascinated by space travel ever since my parents woke me up in time to watch the first moon landing in 1969. I´ve always been grateful to my parents for waking me.

Have you read 'Earthrise' by Robert Poole? It's about how the first pictures of the Earth were taken from space and their impact.
More connected to your passion for the Apollo project try to get hold of a copy of the Ron Howard DVD called 'In the Shadow of the Moon' if you haven't seen it yet. It is a fascinating history of the Apollo project and it#s effect on the people that walked on the moon.

For Christmas last year my wife gave
  • If anyone is interested in keeping tropical fish as a hobby, I have a tank that I'm giving away complete with all the equipment and a fair selection of fish.   I've kept fish for about 20 years now, and have found it both interesting and relaxing.  I have to admit though that recently it has become more of a chore than a pleasure.

If you want them, you can have them.  I don't want anything in return, just an assurance that you'll look after them well.  You'll need to collect from S.E. Essex though.
The offer is still open, if anyone is interested.
  • Badminton (to death or victory) but had to give it up due to severe headaches after every match.

Sixer ....... I used to get severe headaches after playing football.

Went to a specialist - turned out I had "displaced" vertabrae in my neck.

After physio, it went completely - no more headaches.

    Thanks Oggy.
As it happens that is exactly the reason for my headaches.
I did actually get it fixed by a chiropractor a while back, but since then put my neck out again and I don't really want to shell out for another fix.
To be honest I've kinda fallen out of love with Badders anyway.

  • My only hobby apart from Charlton and the Pub is collecting Vinyl. If any of you have any knocking about you no longer want. I will give it a new home for you :-)

I've got 4,500 (approx) singles - would you like to pay off my mortgage?!

What camera do you use? we have a LUmix SLR but when we went Grizzly Bear watching last year others with a digital SLR had much clearer pictures. We are planning a safari in 2012 so want to get a digital SLR. Great photots

Not quite up to the standard of Stig's images but got this shot of an insect sitting on a lavender plant in my parents garden.  Taken on a Sony HX9V, a damn good little compact camera which is getting more use than my Nikon D300 at the moment.
  • Quality JohnBoy.  Much to my antisocial eccentricities, I'm just fascinated by insects/arachnids/amphibians/lizards.  Don't have the camera to really catch a decent picture but I can just stand there and watch them for ages.

Interests are cycling and wine.  Oh and buying bikes....  I really need to stop doing that and sell a few.  But with the cycling I get to see more nature than I could chuck an insect at a woodpecker.
  • Stunning photo's
  • I Bought a boat around xmas , went half in with a good mate, The west Australian coastline is simply stunning, and we go fishing , wake boarding, anything to do with getting out on the water.
Stand up comedy is a passion, and I've managed to do a few spots on open mike nights, but I'm just not that funny! Doesn't stop me though, and the venues love it as the bar gets a flogging whilst I'm up there!
  • I'm a drummer. You wanna hear my paradiddle-diddles...
  • Classic cars - Go to a lot of shows/rallies/races in mine. I also spend much more money than the wife realises collecting old metal oil/petrol signs for my garage walls.

Didn't even notice him when he cycled past as I was knackered or I the photo. Made me laugh that did (he doesn't look in the right shape to make it bake to London ; )  )
