  • I still stand by my brass suggestion
  • Of course they are over reacting - that is what they do. Talking about Hughes impacting the game more than Euell - please. Hughes is on the bench to cover injuries due to his versatility. Euell had little time to imapct when we were fading. Not sure Benno (if he had been fit) woudl have done any better in teh circumstances. Some people get a bee in their bonnet and every match has tp prove them right, even when it doesn't.

    this
  • didn't he break some fingers?

Benson is a striker not a goal keeper could someone please enlighten me as to how this would stop him from playing other then being a poof incase he bangs them, but I sure a chance to play this would not stop him.
  • You try holding off a big lump of a centre-half with broken fingers. You'll be amazed how much it would affect your game.
  • Im not sure how its over reacting, even with 15 minutes left a player with pace could have changed the game for us. I always thought that was the point, 11 men are tired so bring someone on to run at them. For me thats a better option than 40 yard balls onto a 7 ft defenders head, which was our tactic for the last 45 minutes
  • We need to sign a fast forward in the loan market to come on the last 20mins of matches.Any ideas who we could sign?,michael smith,Euell and benson are not the answer.Seven of our last twelve goals have been scored or made by BWP.Was not impressed by Hamer hope he improves.

    oh dear

But I'm sure those big nasty Wednesday players would have made allowences and not tried to squeeze his fingers : - )

Over reacting is attacking Euell for coming on and playing, he made no mistakes, didn't really get passed the ball when he did get the ball he attacked, be it unsuccessfully at least he tried. The bottom line is he was picked out of the 5 available we didn't lose. We didn't win but there were many other players than Euell that game and everyone jumping on him is unfair and unjustified. He also reads this forum as do a lot of the players and I'm sure he will be really happy to know that you're all behind him...

a few days too late. Anyway may I point out we are still unbeaten. I for one think we have a good squad and Powell has already made it clear that he is looking at the loan options.

I'll be interested to come back and read this thread when having used the same team and same subs at the same time of the game we win 2 or 3 nil with Euell scoring, would a different result have made it a better decision? Or would you all maintain that bringing Euell on as a sub is a bad idea??...
  • Euell coming on changed nothing. We didn't play better, we didn't play worse, the game continued exactly as before. However, you can't blame Euell for that, he's always been that link player, just like the one he replaced. It seemed to me to be a token change, Powell could see as well as anyone something had to be altered, but a like for like change achieved bugger all. I would have preferred to see Pritchard come on, his energy and pace would have given the Wednesday players something to think about other than 'Another aerial ball? Head it away... again.'

  • What a load of toot he may not be the answer but I saw the same as all you last night and I think he got somewhere between 10 afnd 13 mins howc u can base an opinion on that is bull shit,

Everyone is there to be shot at I agree everyone is there to be judged but if he has played more than hakf hour of league match football yet I will be amazed,

Chill ya beans folks the league has only just started,

Dale Stephens was Steven gerrard according to some on here two weeks ago he was pony for large parts lady night , but you can't write him off because of 1 poor game, it takes time for players to settle into ax match, megson style last night ensured that it would take a magic man to come on last night afnd influence the play
  • Euell has scored 12 goals since 2006 when he left us. He is. Not an impact striker, not pacy or a hold-up forward. Loved him under Curbs but why is he here?
  • IMO, Powell used Euell to bring off a tiring Paul Hayes

Surely a cheap brass would have sufficed
    Now that made me laugh!
  • And they say Euell had no impact ....???

Euell has been playing in the Championship and premiership - we are playing in league one -come on lads = it isn't rocket science. A good signing and a good player to have on the bench given his versatility and experience. An argument that we could do with another striker on the bench - well nothing wrong with that but Euell did ok last night with no service -we (people who know a little bit about football) need to shoot this nonsense down before it becomes a worn record. Please no scapegoats this season!!!
  • For what it's worth, I'm really not hating or scapegoating Euell here. He's got experience etc, and yes, he has a part to play. But that part is NOT changing our entire system, and it certainly won't be rejuvenating/inspiring a tired team in ten minutes of play. I'm not expecting him to. The point is that when he came on last night, there was no change, though through no fault of his own. He demonstrated the problem, but wasn't the problem in and of himself.
  • He revealed on Twitter earlier that he lost a close relative yesterday (Monday). Given the circumstances, I am hardly going to expect him to be a game changer from the bench. I also think a lot of you are over reacting. 1 point is better than no point. Roll on Exeter.
  • Dont think we needed him. Experience is fine but some better attacking talent would have been better
  • I also, am not blaming Euell, he was just a bad choice for the situation we were in last night. As much as I love SCP i think his substitution tactics haven't been great so far this season, but its very early in the season and i trust him to get better with them. Point of the matter is, it is far from Euell's fault. SCP just needs to improve his substitution tactics and we may have gained an extra goal and 2 more points. Still, all in all, a draw against promotion hopefuls is far from a poor performance and i think later in the season we can hope to grind out wins in similar sorts of games.

  • Wouldn't have minded Ecclestone back on loan as an impact sub... using Euell as an attacking midfielder with Sullivan, Cort, and Benson making up the rest of the bench.

  • With Benno and Green out and Smith and Popo raw, he was the only choice - maybe he should have replaced Stephens- all maybes though - 12 minutes in a team that were flagging - if he had scored which he could have done he would have been the right choice. Some on here need to get some perspective!!!

Silly boy. Those are the kind of comments you should keep in your little homophobic head.

To keep on subject, the time of the change was wrong Hayes had been ineffective all night I would have brought Euell on early in the 2nd half.
  • I dont think anyone is blaming Euell, all those 'pro' Euell posts seem to be as biased as those against. Personally, if I was a defender id be happier seeing a 35 years old attacker with no legs coming on with 15 left.. than a young lad that would have skinned me at kick off.

The guy has done great for us in the past and will in the future, I just dont see how he can change a game in such a short space of time. I hope some of you with the superior footballing knowledge can see that
  • Yes,I'm sure if we had Messi or Rooney available on teh bench on Monday they could have changed the game. It is probably more thoughtfulness than footballing knowledge to be fair - looking who was available to Chrissy on the night. You have to laugh at posts suggesting Hughes would better change the game!!!

Ok, this fast, incisive, skillfull player who can influence the game as soon as he comes on would make a difference I'm sure- but who is he? The point is, Euell is a good aquisition and an excellent sub to have. He hasn't looked bad when he has come on either and the fact that some have suggested so has pushed me into rage  - sorry.

  • Alternatively they might be a bit disheartened at seeing a player with international experience who's recently played at Championship/Premiership level coming on to a League One game?

It's funny how some people regard a 34 year old player as a has-been, greedy for one last fat paycheque, and virtually finished.

That may apply to some players, but Jason Euell never gives that impression.

He may not have the acceleration of a raw 19 year old, but he's no slouch either, easily as quick and fit as most other Division One players.
But look at his enthusiasm and desire to perform for Charlton....... he has no intention of letting Chris Powell down, his team mates or the fans.

At this level, he's a wise old head, knows his manager inside and out having played alongside him for many years, and his experience and knowhow will prove invaluable on and off the field throughout the season.

Ian Holloway, his manager at Blackpool last season, said he was one of his best signings.
Chris Powell will know why Ollie said that.
  • Not Euells fault. It was the wrong tactical move by CP. As Oggy said earlier, we needed to get the ball down and start running at them through the middle. Moving Waggy inside would have caused their huge centre half big problems and would have made us play it on the ground.
  • I thought he played well vs Reading, I certainly don't think he is past it, you need a squad of players throughout the season and I think he'll pop up with a few goals during it.

I for one have never said Euell is a bad player. The fact remains that in his coming on last night Powell simply replaced a link up player with a smaller, older link-up player, who had to watch balls hoofed over his head then headed back whence they came. What was that going to achieve?
  • I haven't seen anybody say he's a has-been, or greedy for a paycheck.  I've seen quite a lot of puzzlement as to what CP has in mind when he brings him on.
