sneaky ticket price increase ?

edited September 2011 in General Charlton
just noticed that the tickets for the MK dons match are only discounted for over 65s not over 60 as has been the case for many years. Is this a new policy or just for the 1 match. I ask as this will effect my 2 brothers immediately and me from January

  • You mean the away game in which case we have no control over the pricing structure, presumably that is MK Dons on going structure.  Nothing to do with our Club

Seems as this is the norm at most away matches this season unfortunately, DPFC.

Presumably to be in line with state pension age.  Just watch for it to go to 67, 68, 70, 70+....    Bugger, I may never reach the age of reduced tickets now ;-(
  • I should have read the ticket info more carefully. It is of course an away match andthe pricing has nothing to do with CAFC.

I was a bit wound up to be told only half an hour earlier that I could not get my bus pass until 2014 when my brothers got theirs at 60 ( and i've paid more into the system than both of them combined

Just to make your day DPFC you will have to wait even longer for your winter fuel allowance speaking from personal experience.  http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Pensionsandretirementplanning/Benefits/BenefitsInRetirement/DG_198331

Very good  point...... I posted on here about  the discount that the unemployed used to receive a few years back, but got no reply.......
So I assume there is not one?

If this  policy is extended to Charlton home games, I will be one that will miss out?.I was hoping to get a half season ticket in January at the reduced rate, pity as the empty rows of seats that are next to me look like remaining that way. Quite how this makes financial sense seems rather short sighted to me in marketing terms. Surely any additional revenue generated  is profit, plus the add on  of additional revenue earners like drinks, programmes etc. The state retirement age will be well in excess of 70 plus in the future, I think it has already been announced that it is to rise to 68. Politically they do not want to announce it yet?.  Not surprissed by the goverment fuel allowance age rising, still I will keep warm, burning  my old season tickets and programmes....
  • Ken, where have you seen ANY suggestion this will happen at Charlton?

The 'clue' was in the phrase 'if'...... a small but significant  pre-curser to the  proposition/question asked Stu.
As Fanny has sadly reported it has become a trend among away games, so in the words of the dragons......' I'm out'
And although I am sure Charlton can sustain the loss of one awkward git like me, digging there heels in, it does strike me rather ironic that the MK dons were supported by the Football Supporters Federation, yet seem happy to pass on price increases to fellow 'brother' fans, in what I am sure they see as a  possible big money earner for them. Why not charge £50.......  for third tier football in empty stadiums?

The age restrictions on other clubs' tickets are nothing to do with us and mean nothing in terms of our pricing structure, neither am I aware there has been any general change this season in other clubs' policies. Our over 60s pricing as opposed to over 65s - and more recently our U18s offer as opposed to U16s, etc - has been among the most generous available for years.

The only tweak we have made is to separate U18s and U11s on matchdays, as they were separate on season tickets.

  • Thanks a lot airman feel re-assured.......
I agree Charlton have been , and are generous in regard to other clubs, which is why I will be buying mine after x mas.
  • To play devil's advocate here _ I'm 58 and actually find it rather bizarre that I will be able to get my CAFC ticket cheaper in 2 years time. Is there really any logic to 60 in this day and age?  A 60 year old is likely to be earning much more than people in their early twenties (who may have mortgages and familes to worry about as well)

.....or living on a fixed income with a small pension that doesn't keep pace with rising costs.

There has been a tradition of public service in the UK that people could retire at 55 in public service, and in fact the public service that I worked for it was compulsory at 60, until last year. Of course as has been posted on here before you make  your retirement arrangements based on when you think you will be retiring. I do remember being at school and the proposition was that what would we be doing after we retired in our mid 50s. Of course the theory that people over 50 do not have a mortgage, and  have all the benefits of the baby boomers never had it so good, is part of the illusion of political speech writers and lazy hacks. I find it strange that you have not heard about pensioner poverty redman?.  I am glad that you are reaping the rewards of a comfortable middle age, some of us are still paying a mortgage  and have children at home, and elderly relatives whose houses will be taken off of them if they go into a care home etc.
Having been made  unemployed myself, as  I posted  on  here previously, and as Charlton seem to no longer give a concession to the unemployed like myself I am very grateful for there financial support. Of course you could alway's refuse the offer redman, as I did with children's tax credit's  when I was in a position to do so, it is a choice, I am just grateful that this enables me to support the team, more than I would be able to do so because of circumstances. Or of course offer your 'discount' to another fellow supporter, perhaps who is having to purchase a family member additional ticket. Only a thought?

Some 60 year olds may earn as you describe but there are also a considerable number with  dependent children still studying at university and maybe elderly parents to support as well.

Many 60 year olds are unemployed too or, if lucky enough to have work, in minimum wage occupations in shops like B&Q.

I have no doubt that should Charlton reach the Premiership they will raise the age from 60 because they can and still sell the seats which will price many of those of us over or approaching 60 out of it once and for all.

It's a business though isn't it. Market forces, supply and demand blah, blah, blah.
