  • Still think He was treated appallingly by the New Owners:
Where ever He goes I wish Him well, (unless its mkfran, c palace or spanners).
  • Oddly enough, I think he was treated pretty badly as well!
  • No ill will to Parkinson whatsoever.Steered our club through one of it's most difficult times.
  • FFS why does this have to be re hash, some people on here wanted to say some positive things about Parky's impending appointment but again the thread is hijacked and it becomes anther argumentive thread.  Large why do you need to have a sly dig, even if others do, I thought you were better than that.

Stu / Charlton Bob - why when we are doing so well on the field under Powell do you even want to get involved in this thread?

Parkie was great / Parkie was crap - why is it relevant to Parkie dislikers now?

Kap, it becomes relevant when it stops being a good luck thread to being told that he did a great job for us & that he was unfairly sacked.

He was a dreadful "manager" & if people start spouting rubbish about how good he was I will constantly disagree.

I'm still not convinced that Powell is the man to take us upwards but have to say he's signed some great players for next to nothing, while from parkinson we got the likes of francis, mcoxo, untold numbers of dreadful loan right backs each one worse than the previous while playing the best talent to come out of the youth set up in years out of position & eventually banishing him to the stands when he should have built the team around JonJo........an utterley dreadful manager that I had forgotten about until this thread ....sorry

  • Parky will need his entire range of V-neck sweaters up north..
  • What charltonbob said for the same reasons is 100% on the money,

I wish them all the best and I wish him all the best no malice from me but a great manager for us never

How dare you have an opinion! Should be ashamed of yourself.
  • It seems that some people actually think that Parkinson will read this thread. Odd.
  • The stats don't lie. We got to within an inch (ok, more, I think Bailey's penalty is still going) of the Playoff final with a pretty decent L1 level team, minus a decent goalscorer, and then did surprisingly well the next season considering our team was picked apart after we didn't go up. It's not a terrible record, nor is it a great one. I don't think you can say Parky was a great manager for us, nor was he a disaster. He did however keep us relevant and fighting in a time where we easily could have gone the way of Bradford, or worse, Plymouth. I'll always respect him for the job he did with no money, especially when compared to that prima donna eejit Pardew who threw cash around and got us into the dire place we find ourselves in. One thing I would have been interested to see is who Parky signed with financial backing. The players he brought in with no money were impressive, but we never saw him make any signings with some wedge. Guess we'll never know

Oh my God, a reasonable, balanced and intelligent comment about Parkinson's time at Charlton!

Couldn't have put it better myself. Hope it works out for him.
  • Have a lot of time for Parky, good guy who worked very hard and he didn't have a pot to piss in while he was here. Yes he shouldn't have got the job after he his caretaker period but in L1 he nearly got promotion and then left us in 5th which looking at our squad was a fairly good achievement before Powell came in and made a hash of it. Hope he does well for them.

    Good luck Parky.

NB I don't think Powell made a hash of it. Powell gave the players a chance to see if they could play good football & most of them failed miserably. He may just have got us promoted via the play offs, playing hoof ball, but then he would have still had to replace the majority.

This way, hopefully we can get promoted playing good football, with good players, who will be all the better for it next season, as they will have been playing together for a year & also have the confidence that promotion would have given them.

Powell, did the right thing, even if it was painful at the time.

  • I always have a sympathetic look for Bradford's position. They still draw a crowd around 10,000 in a crowded football area, having tasted success.
As for Parky, like the rest of you I wish him well but if I was his Dad I would say that Scouting for Arsenal is a decent situation, stay where you are.

    .
  • Bradford has become a bigger graveyard for managers than CAFC had become,
perhaps they are now ready to have better times as hopefully we are.

What ever mine or anyone else's criticism of Parky he was a genuine and
sincere bloke who gave his best, he deserves a break.

     I think he will
do well at Bradford.  The timing for club and manager seems right to me, they
have signed a few players and just got off to a bad start, but as yesterdays
result suggests they are capable of competing near the top this season.
  • Not a great manager, but certainly not the worst we've seen (and we don't have to look back very far to find some more suitable candidates for that 'accolade').  He gave it his all and deserves credit for that.

I hope he does well at Bradford; though it won't be easy.  It's a classic situation of a club that has fallen far below its natural station and so the fans will expect success and the pressure will be on (where have we heard that before?).  Good luck Parky, you're going to need it - If you get that club back on its feet, then you will deserve a lot of credit for it.  All the best.
  • Made his first signing already...
Kyel Reid on a 2 year deal!

Good luck to him and Bradford, I think/hope he'll do well there.
