Luciano Masiello

edited August 2011 in General Charlton
A big thanks to former Charlton Athletic player Luciano Masiello for coming onto CCTV Live last night, certainly an interview that would have appealed to any Charlton fans who were regulars throughout the 60s. A repeat of last nights show is now available on the website www.charltonchoicetv.co.uk and Lucianos interview was broadcast around an hour into the show. If theres any particular former player that would interest supporters please let us know and we will endevour to get them on

  • Isn't that the wrong spelling ?
  • robert lee mate! :-)
  • Thought this was going to be about an exciting new signing....;-)
  • Please don't take this the wrong way, but, why go up against "CharltonLive" ? I'd love to listen to yous guys, but 7pm Sunday is CL time.
And, if you don't mind me asking, what numbers are listening to you on Sunday night ?
Honestly, I'm not critizing, just asking.

Hi Mog, we've met before and no offence taken at all. Ultimately in the long run we want to deliver the best possible show to Charlton supporters, i run my own business and i know feedback is crucial to the success of any business or project.

There's no cloak and dagger reason as to the time slot, we believe its simply the best time to put a show out there. As iv said before, i work Saturday nights and get up sometimes late morning on a Sunday, it then takes hours to prepare for the show editing audio taken from the Saturday and preparing other stuff, sound checks etc. By the time that's all done its late afternoon then at 6 we are doing test calls with guests scheduled to come on the show. The show has to go out on a Sunday or the content from Saturday becomes less relevant but it will be too late to go out at 9pm. Our show is repeated on the website from Monday morning so anyone who cant listen live can always still listen during the week but I understand the downside of listening to a repeat are that you cant email the show live and call in to speak to our guests. The time slot is very much at the front of our minds at the moment as we look to develop everything.

At the moment the show is very raw and we are working on a more structured template with lots of new features planned that we are going to be bringing into the show over the coming months. For example at the moment we have taken on board bloggers and match reporters who are teenage fans already involved in student journalism or studying journalism at Uni, so we are providing a platform for them to gain valuable work experience and put something on their CV. The website is very much a platform for any Charlton fan to promote themselves or the club in a positive way, for example we intend to develop the radio side of things and this will open up opportunities for aspiring dj's or musicians to showcase their work or host a show. We are also going to be looking to promote good causes within the community as well as developing a tool that will enable us to broadcast instantly in the event of a major news story involving cafc, so that we can go straight to air and take calls and emails. Say for example CP was sacked/resigned or a major signing was made or something big happens like an investment for example, something that fans may feel beneficial or detrimental of the club then we can go straight to air, get instant reaction, debate and take calls and emails. As you probably realise this is all very time consuming, there are only a couple of us working on all of this and its a labour of love, but over the course of time once developed this will be a superb tool that will benefit Charlton and the supporters.

Alternatively imagine that if The Valley was to be sold to a property investor and it was announced that Charlton will be moving to the dome or somewhere ghastly like another local ground and a campaign started similar to "back to the valley" with local elections etc, because we are independent of the club we could give that campaign maximum support and exposure because we are independent. I was speaking to Peter Finch before the Scunthorpe game and in his own words "we can do stuff that they cant" because they come under the clubs banner and we don't, there is a line they cannot cross and this is where we believe we offer something important to the supporters and the well being of the club. If it wasnt for those campaigns in the 80s then there would be no Charlton so having an independent media channel can work in a positive way for the fans. Our aim is not to work against the club, Charlton Choice Tv are all massive lifelong Charlton supporters, we want the best for the club and we want all Charlton fans to be able to listen to as much cafc related media as possible but at the end of the day supporters arnt always going to agree with everything the club do every step of the way.

We also believe that the former players of Charlton are an integral part of the clubs history, this is an area of our site that we will be developing. We had Luciano on Sunday and it was great to hear him talk about the players and stories from the 60s. We have plenty lined up for live interviews on the show and I can tell you already that we are already lining up a video interview with former Scottish International John Hewie. Anyone who was a fan throughout the 80s and the time when we left the Valley will be very interested in our guest we have lined up for our show on Sunday September 4th, further details to follow....

This project has always been about the fans and this ethos will continue, any ideas or suggestions are welcome. For the record we peaked at 77 listeners this Sunday, at this stage and without any proper advertising this is more than we had anticipated.
  • Love the show. Keep up the good work.

Really enjoyed listening to the show and in particular the interview with Luciano. I started going to the Valley in 66/67 and remember him being in the squad. In fact I've still got the team picture with him in it. Facinating to hear about all my hereos from those day's, Allan Campbell, Graham Moore, Harry Gregory, Charlie Wright, Bobby Curtis (RIP), Paul Went etc etc. Great stuff.
  • Think it's great having an alternative to charlton live. I listen to live every sunday, and admit to not knowing about your show until this sunday just gone. I'll be giving it a listen during the next day or two. Hopefully you'll take advantage of your position of being independant and not follow the same format as live and become our voice of the valley in audio format.
  • To be honest I thought that this was a club thing. How do I listen to it ?

Iv always wanted the original Choice Tv to be a video VOTV but with the way things have gone I cant think of a better way of putting it other than an audio version of that superb fanzine.

We have already approached some well known and respected names amongst the Charlton community who we hope will be involved in this and look forward to making announcements in due course, there is a lot going on behind the scenes. By the end of this year we are hoping to have everything in place that we planned.

As far as driving the independence of the project is concerned, anybody is welcome to get involved or make suggestions, this is the fans platform whether they want to use us to help their own cause or call in and have their say on cafc during a show, whether its good or bad everyone's voice is important. As I said before we are keen to take on ideas and promote anything that is worthy to cafc supporters so if anyone has ideas then fire them into us at info@charltonchoicetv.co.uk. As mentioned we are working on a more structured template with some really interesting stuff on the horizon and intend to keep this all free of charge.

We can and never would follow the format of CL, we have completely different ideas. Also we don't have access to all the official video and interviews you can get elsewhere.

    @charltonbob

everything is on our website www.charltonchoicetv.co.uk.
  • Just listened to the Luciano interview. Great stuff! Keep up the good work. I wasn't even aware if you until an hour ago but you now have a new convert.
It was sad to hear Luciano talking about Paul Went, I hope things improve for him. The man was absolute class in those teams of the late 60's and early 70's.
  • I remember Luciano's one-two with Graham Moore which resulted in the most viciously struck volley I have ever seen (by Moore, by the way). The Norwich keeper was a replacement for the injured Kevin Keelan (I think) and the first shot he had to deal with (although I may be exaggerating). Still, one of the best goals I have ever seen and one where you do not see the ball go in - just the net bulging.
