O.k everyone calm down, I get it that the red red Robin is tradition and therefore sacred perhaps we could get it re-recorded by someone under the age of 90?
Would be so upset if it did change! My late grandfather used to walk around whistling and singing it all the time (He was a huge charlton fan). Pretty sure it wont be happening anytime soon though thank god
Kinnel, I've heard it all now. Sick-inducing!!! Why on Earth is it sick-inducing? I wonder how many Geordies would describe Blaydon Races as sick-inducing; how many Hammers retch at the thought of Bubbles and how many
Everton fans have to reach for the sick bags at the merest hint of the Z-cars theme. I've heard that in Southampton there are people who can do a projectile vomit some 20 feet long just by thinking about marching saints. Meanwhile in Liverpool every other Saturday, the Kop end is awash with chuck as thousands of scousers join in the local favourite, "You'll never puke alone".
It is very important remember that there are two, and only two, "sick-inducing" introductory songs in league football these are "Let 'Em Come" and "Glad All Over".
The Red Red Robin is wonderful. Learn to love it, because it is an essential part of our club.
Living in OZ means I don't get to many games. When I do get to them one of the things I look forward to is Red Red Robin as the players come out. I find it very emotional, part of Charlton and thus part of me. Change it? What's next then, change our colours? The nickname change was hard enough to take.
Why can't people simply respect a tradition and heritage that goes back generations?
What like slavery and blokes marrying their own 12 year old daughters? Tradition and heritage that goes back generations is by and large backwards and sick-inducing. Just like the Red Red Robin.
Think some people have just been brought up on a diet of over the top, hyped up sky sports. They'd only be happy to see us enter the pitch by absailing from the west stand to the sound of the prodigy (firestarter probably) with £20k worth of pyrotechnics going off...........................and then complain that the match wasn't entertaining enough. It's 53 secs from start til big dave kicks in............................
As a supporter for 37 years I do feel that we should go out to Valley Floyd Rod. I think it talks to what Charlton are now rather than what they were in the 30s and 40s. We no longer have a Robin on or crest and we are not called the Robins so yes I understand the traditionalists to an extent but it should be changed.

Groan - anyone want to change the colour of the shirts, the badge, our nicknames or move to a new stadium while we are at it.
I do think we ought to do more to get everyone to sing the Red Red Robin - show the words on the screen etc. If anyone wants to be creative perhaps they could think up some songs for our new players.
We are a family club although I realise that is anathema to some.
The Red, Red, Robin is a link to generations present and past who've supported Charlton just as we acknowledge those fans no longer with us in January each year.
This will probably read as terribly patronising and I apologise if it does but perhaps one needs to be a little older to fully appreciate it and have lost the people you first went to The Valley with.
The original version of RRR we used to play was a special recording where the Billy Cotton Band members spelt out C H A R L T O N at the end followed by a rousing call of 'Addicks Away!!'. See, we were also forerunners of rap...can't get much more modern than that !
Wouldn't it be great if the original recording could be sourced somehow...it would be utter magic.

I suspect wind up merchants started this thread and thus I should ignore it.
However why can't people simply respect a tradition and heritage that goes back generations?
I think I now know what a Troll is.
THIS IS OUR HERITAGE - DON'T WANT EMINEM OR 50 CENT -
However, loved the Squeeze. !!

Would it?
