What's happening to me?

edited August 2011 in General Charlton
With the start of the season a couple of days away I'm not too proud to admit that I'm so up for it, i feel like a kid all over again. Having had to give up my season ticket at the end of 2002/03 season due to moving up north and family stuff, I now find myself planning to attend all weekend home matches this season and maybe even a few away trips.

I have also not bought a replica shirt since the 98 play-off mesh shirt as i decided that I only normally wore them for footie training or other sporting activities, and as I no longer participate in any of these, there was no point in owning one. Today however, Someone mentioned on another thread that he'd bought a home shirt for just £25 from sports direct. Just out of curiosity i looked at their site and before I'd come to my senses, a new home shirt is in the post, on it's way to my home ready for saturday.

I'm 44 yrs old FFS. So why am i now caught by this bug at a time when i really should know better?

  • Because, Tango, of your inner child.
  • Sounds like you are prepared to give 110%...
  • Mid life crises?

And why buy a new shirt. I could have sold you an old one that some bloke gave me at Welling..... Oh hang on a minute. : - )

Good on you, there is no age limit to flashing the colours. Really though, £25 that's pretty good may have to order one too :-))

    huh? were there 2 ghosts?
  • Come back on here at 5pm Saturday:
    Normal service will be back......
  • FourFourTwo's prediction made me more excited, nothing better than proving someone wrong after they've slated you!
  • Mate you're not the only one, good feeling isn't it?
  • With you 110% Tango!
Enlisted my nephew, his wife, their two daughters, his wife's sister and my brother in law for my first ever departure to the family stand for this game.
Not sure the big nasty man I owe a fortune to will approve, but hey ho!
It's going to be worth it!
    The start of the renaissance

    I'm 40, ffs
  • I'm feeling exactly the same, I can't wait for that first ball to be kicked in anger - I've bought 4 tops in this close season and plans on wearing them with pride as I really feel this could be a great season

    Come on you Addicts!

  • I'm with you on this. Been tempted to buy a shirt the last few times I've been to the shop but been turning my little lad into a Addick instead. The Floyd teddy, football, poster and mini kit for the car should do it. Can't wait for Saturday, been bullish since the transfers started rolling in but now getting a little flutter of nerves. Couple pints of ale before kick off will hopefully sort that.
  • and you will be shouting them on just like you did when you were half your current age.
    The years will melt away
  • Give yourself a break Tangoflash. If you can't get overexcited just before the start of a season, particularly when we've bought practically an entirely new team, when can you? I'd be more concerned if you were bouncing around like a giddy teenager in January if we've had a crap first half of the season.
  • i have been getting a bit excited and then i remember we're guaranteed south londons wooden spoon again and we're in the third tier and i know one orient fan who i'd be embarrassed to give it to if we beat them

there's no one  apart from charlton fans who i can talk about our team to

    but season 2012-13

perleeeeease go up you 110% ers

i'm afraid the way you describe your symptoms mean its terminal and you'll have to be put to sleep?%-{>
  • It just gets me buzzing thinking that we're now at the beginning of a new and exciting era for the club, a bit like when  we returned to the Valley. Normally my inner pessimist would have kicked in by now with reports of doom and gloom for the near future, but no, this time feels different and no, i'm not on prozak.

I'll try to look after the shirt Henry and you can have it in about 20 yrs from now. ; )
  • Tango, dont worry mate..I'm 56 and cant remember being this excited about the start of a new season as this since we got promoted to the Prem all those years ago. Its as though all those years of standing in the old covered end and being a noisey teenager are flooding back......except I've got a ticket for the East stand on saturday....so best calm it down a bit!! LOL
Enjoy Saturday my friend this could be the start of a CAFC resurgance...and you will be there to be part of it!!
  • LAD.

Buzzing as well mate, cannot wait for things to kick off. Colchester and Notts County away will be brilliant also.

  • I'm dreading it to be honest!

No I don't think we'll be relegated but I fear we will not be promoted.

Too much Gelling to be done ;o)
  • RM, which block?

  • Huge amount of optimism about tango even amongst die hard pessimists like me (work that out !)....it does indeed seem like a new dawn. My main concern isn't the team (tho it may take a few games to gel) but whether CP is up to it. Fingers crossed for a winning start on saturday & hopefully we can kick on from there
  • I also want Powell to succeed probably more than any other manager we've had in the past. Obviously he can't afford a bad run like he had last season but i really can't see that being remotely close to happening.

I'd probably be happy if we're in the same position at xmas as we were last season, providing we are playing better football, as the difference is that this team will only improve over the season whereas last years team just ran out of steam and ideas.
