  • And that he is celibate.

he's in a picture of the Toulouse Youth squad alongside Akpa Akpro of Rochdale, and Adam Smith! (no, not that one)
  • @liamhappe has just confirmed on Twitter that he's not playing for the u18s today (who are currently 5-3 up against Oxford)
  • I reckon he'll play a part tomorrow night Scoham and wouldn't be surprised if Williams has gone
  • joe piggott just scored 4 for u18s!!!

  • 2 being penalties and one a tap in from a spilled drive but fairplay to the lad
  • tap ins are a 'right place at the right time' sort of thing which good strikers naturally possess.

i didnt see the game today so cant comment on his goals, but people make a living out of 'tap-ins'.

  • Mike, Pigott's simplistic and predatory style are sometimes just what the U18s need in their ranks, and heaven knows at times even the senior squad too.
  • is quick, strong or tall? or is his game much more about positioning than any particular physical attribute?
  • He's tall enough and strong enough, I wouldn't call him slow by any means but we have ample channels for pace elsewhere shall we say. He works hard, tracks back and mentally has a great knack for the game and how to make something out of nothing.

a goal's a goal.  Lineker, Greaves and killer scored plenty of tap in's but that's about anticipation and losing your marker as much as the finish
  • Van Nistelrooy must have scored half his goals from within 10 yards of the goal
  • The tap ins that show good movement are ones that come as a result of a pass or a cross. Then theres one like Piggots was described as today, Pigott converts Harriott's spilled drive. Would say thats more luck than good positioning. Then again I wasn't there.
  • luck when you do it once.   Skill when you do it again and again during a career.   Just staying on-side is a knack some strikers never get : - )

If you don't buy a ticket...

If we get promoted because we win a match after BWP knocks in the winner from two yards would you hand the points back?

  • no obviously not... blimey I was only pointing out how his goals were scored!
  • yes, only 30 yard screamers or outragous displays of "teckers" count as goals in the Sky/MOTD goals of the month

in reality a passing move where you have moved the ball and their defence around so well that your player is standing a few yards out, unmarked and with a "tap in" is play of the highest order

  • All this unqualified chitter chatter about goal scoring and knacks and skills. I'm not believing any of it until Bexley Dan come on to confirm it.

Well, a good team goal does sometimes get shown on the montages but lets face it, there's a bit more razzamataz about a 30 yard overhead screamer or a take the whole team on dribble and finish. Coaches love team goals, artists like me revel in the glory of individual brilliance whether thats a defence splitting pass or a stunning individual effort. Hope that helps.

  • BD you are a legend in your own lunchtime ;0)
  • As Henry mentioned, Gary Lineker was top rate at being in the right place and made a fantastic club/international career out of it and can probably count the goals he scored from outside the 6 yd box on one hand. There's certainly more than an element of luck involved.

Mike, Pigott had to beat the goalkeeper with a couple of touches and lift the ball into the roof of the net to make certain.

Also, take into consideration the timing and nature of the run he made once he noticed Harriott was setting up for a strike at goal from 20-22 yards. He made his own luck, pardon the expression.

Twitter allows 140 characters at a time so forgive the abruptness of my initial commentary. A full report will be online tomorrow.
  • I was at the game, Joe's goal was all about being at the right place at the right time and having the quick reactions to finish. He is a friend of one of my Grandsons, so I have seen him a few times. He reminds me of the old Centre Forwards like Bobby Smith, and as he grows stronger could be quite a handful for defences.
  • yeh, the abruptness of the report,  its all ur fault liam!!!

Would do off it but i really don't like to blow my own trumpet.
  • Hello - new user name but been reading since NetAddicks days.

I also emailed Alexis today and amazingly he replied. Seems like he is enjoying it with Charlton so far and is looking to sign a contract. By the sounds of tonight's performance at Aldershot we could do with another direct striker (well only going by those videos on his site).

We deffo need more options up front.
  • shame he didnt make an appearance last night, hopefully he will at woking (is that our next one??)
