Jay Simpson

Probably utter ballcocks, but the word amongst Reuters staff is that we are in for him. 6 month loan.

Just cant see this one having any legs but thought I'd share it anyway.

  • Those Reuters staff are always in the know .... grrrrrrrr
  • Yes please! Might not work with BWP though?
  • I wish! He's a class above from what I have seen
  • Who is he
  • Hull Striker - product of Arsenal Academy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Simpson
  • Only 5ft11", not long enough.
  • Had a productive loan at QPR in 2009/10 but struggled a bit at Hull, did have a mini purple patch around xmas last season and may need a move to reignite his career. From what I have seen he is powerful but not sure he will fufill our need for a target man no9 type forward.
  • I thought he was more of a winger?
  • His dad is a Moroccan - Mustafa Simpson.

  • good play jay simpson very good player would be a real signing to get you off your seat

  • Don't know much about him but have the impression he's a bit like Eccleston, winger/striker with pace, not suited to playing alongside BWP. Could be wrong but like Eccleston I don't see where he'd fit. Green and Wagstaff on the right is enough, up front we wouldn't drop BWP for him.
  • more of a striker in my opinion than ecclestone
  • What NLA said.

Isn't Simpson left footed? Scratch that just watched some highlights on youtube he's as right footed as they come!

Fair enough but could he play alongside BWP? He'd expect to play if he dropped down to League 1.
  • Cant see this happening. Only been there a year and probably on about 10k a week.

I doubt the wages would be an issue because if they wanted him farmed out to give him experience, Hull could continue to pay all or most of his wages.
  • He scored a couple of goals for Arsenal in a League Cup game a few years ago, which prompted The Sun to go for the backpage headline, 'Oh, Jay Simpson!', which I liked.
  • I would be delighted if this comes true. Top calibre, and a player who will be looking to prove himself. Fingers crossed.
  • If he does better at the Valley than on the road will he be Homer J Simpson?

  • I'd be very happy if this is true although I doubt it is,he's deffenetly more of a striker than a winger.
  •  I dont really care how good a player is, loans should only be entered into in near emergency situations as a last resort. It has become too easy and is lazy management to continually bring players in on loan.  If a manager really fancies a player he should put his money where his mouth is and sign him. In case of injury the manager should have ensured that he has adequate cover for the injured player.

I dont want my club being used as a nursery/laboratory/testing ground for other club's players. Last season Martin was recalled just as he was coming good, causing disruption to team planning and loss of momentum. And how would you feel if you were signed to a club and never got a game because somebody just passing through was always picked ahead of you.

  • there is definitely a place for loans
  • there is definitely a place for loans
    justify that statement please
  • There is a place for loans, but the sheer number of them is getting a bit ridiculous. A team from the Championship (Leicester if I recall correctly) field an entire back 5 of loan signings last year.

I think it should be limited to 2 or 3, and intra-division loans should certainly be banned.

Jay Simpson showed a lot of early promise in his career, but looks to have drifted a bit recently. I'm not sure he's what we need. I don't want us to be changing the team every week if we don't click immediately. It took Andy Hunt a while to get going.

A library perhaps ?? otherwise keep them as a last resort for injuries. Maybe we could pick up Scott Parker if the deal as cover for Essien fails...

That is really my point. A rich book cooker like Mandaric can conjure up funny money to finance a team of players that he cannot afford to sign. Cardiff with Bellamy is another example of 'abuse' (in my terms) of the loan system. Spend a few quid and if it dosn't get promotion and makes a loss, a club can set off  loan fees and wages against the tax liability. Jimmy Bullard looks like spendng the rest of his career in limboland because no club will sign him on a high wage but many clubs are ready to borrow him for a few weeks and hope they get success with him in the team.

I wouldnt want parker back here .. he done gone a long time ago !!!!
  • Surprised me that no one mentioned that he was on loan at Millwall 07/08, where he made 41 apps scoring 7.
