Transfers - From the Horses Mouth

edited July 2011 in General Charlton

Possibly should go in Transfers Rumours, but this is from a player, admin feel free to move.

While at Welling on saturday, I had a conversation with a one of our palyers, who may or may not wear pink while playing!!

Dailly is not training and has not been seen in or around the training ground.

Elliot wants to sign a contract extension and wants to say, trying to work things out.

This player said that Racon going was just about money, and what a nice lad he was, Millwall offering more. Semedo going was no surprise, but I got the impression that he wasn't as popular around the dressing room as Racon. He added that he feels that we have a much stronger team than last season because we have in the main signed the best players in the division from last season. Good feeling around the training ground as well. The players all know what is expected this season.

We are signing two more players. No more as far he knows.

  • The two more players bit was said by the goalkeeper coach, not the goalkeeper ;)
  • Thanks for that. Any mention of Youga? Not that we actually need him.

It'll be a defender then and a striker. Doesn't look good for Andersen then with him being left sided.

If the defender is a right back (Smith?) it leaves us with only 3 senior centre backs plus Mambo. I suppose that might be seen as enough since we could loan someone in if needed.
  • To be fair we may still be signing Andersen. I wouldn't take the 2 signings bit as gospel even if it was by a coach, things are always changing

Unless Andersen is going to be primarily a centreback if signed, rather than a fullback who can play centrally. A bit of variety will surely be useful.
  • Interesting, and largely positive, esp. re the "know what's expected" bit. The 2 new signings bit could still leave room for eg. Doc to re-sign, depending where the available cash goes on the other two. Agree with Scoham, still appear to be gaps for one more forward and one more CB / RB.
  • Sco - No mention of Youga.

Junior - What are you doing on CL, you should be working!

  • Andersen looked good, diddn't he? Strong but mobile. It'll be important for the club to establish whether the injuries taht have hampered him are safely in the past or likely to re-surface. We've seen a few defenders struggle with those!

Yes his injuries may cause him a problem , I feel he is well aware of them because he was stretching, deeper and longer than the rest of the squad in the warm up.
  • There is a fairly widespread opinion that stretching is more likely to cause injuries than prevent them. Gentle warm up preferred.
  • I think andersen will be signed if he impresses further, i think we will see Evina playing left wing more than Left back this year

  • Do we know whether Dailly went to Spain ?

That would clinch it either way for me

Agree with that if he signs, apart from maybe Bover we don't really have anyone else to play left wing so Evina looks a good bet
  • True. Jacko appears quite rightly to be first choice for left mid but for when we want more of a winger Evina may well provide the option. Good to know he can defend too. Sure to be injuries and other disruptions over the season anyway but the squad being built seems to have a good balance with cover for most positions, rather than just shifting square pegs to round holes.
  • Harriott and Davisson both play on the left, but they'll find it hard to make then bench if most players are available.
  • I honestly think we can do without Dailly this year. Sad but true.
  • Youga won't be ready for another month - so pretty much down to him to force his way back into contention, but nobody planning on it happening.

Doherty has a year left on his contract so does not have to re-sign.
Dailly was not on the plane to spain
  • Dailly maintains his fitness year round as he is an athletics coach.

He could still sign if he doesn't get a better offer.

    2 defenders still needed.

Perhaps a bruiser for impact up front from the bench is required.
  • Personally think that if we do sign Andersen, he'll be used as a CB. Although he can play left (and good opportunity for powell to see him in his "weaker position"), I think the main reason he played there on saturday was because of the injury to Evina leaving us short at LB and having 4 others to play CB, it was the logical option to give everyone half a game. Well, that's how i saw it.

Regarding left-sided midfielders, i might be wrong here but wasn't it said that Hollands can also play on the left?
  • God i'm infuriatingly good at this prediction stuff - said Doherty would be the only one of our current centre backs to stay a few months back. Not ideal as a first choice due to his lack of pace but at least he does what it says on the tin - i.e if you just want somebody to stand and head the thing away, he'll do that all day long and is good at it.

trouble is he usually heads it to an opposing player.

Was always going to happen, he was the only one with another year left on his contract.

Pace doesn't seem to be much of an issue to Powell, I don't think Taylor and Morrison are meant to be quick themselves, and Mambo certainly isn't.
  • tangoflash I think Andersen is a left back who can play centre back
  • I think that Ben Roberts (that is the goalkeeping coach's name, right?) Meant two more definite signing so if he did then surely that's not counting the trialists as they're obviously not definite so we could see more
  • Could just be Sam Williams and a right back.

No chance. Williams wont be signing for us. Ebbsfleet will be closer to the mark.
  • got told that Dailly will be staying at the club to do his UEFA badges and coaching and if needed, he will play
