10 goals in 30 games last season.  2 silly red cards. Did score some important goals and will now be playing with his ex team mate Green.

Big season for him I'd say. For someone 6ft2, you would want him to bulk up by a stone though.

  • Without probably being first choice alongside BWP, given the right service I reckon he'll score enough goals to be part of a successful team this season. Stas prove he can finish, Green now on board to deliver for him, and he's had a reasonable season now to adjust to the higher level. Be surprised if he doesn't improve on last year's return.
  • I think (hope) he'll do better on last season.

I agree totally and hope the 'fans' keep of his back ... metaphorically speaking

Looks like he has seriously caught the sun, looks like he is going balder as well. Didn't do much vs Welling tbh, think he'll score a few goals throughout the season.

Can see him being this seasons boo boy unfortunately if McOxo and Francis have gone

As long as the effort is there then I really hope not, would be nice to go a season without one but may be asking too much !
  • The idiots would have to find at least one player to abuse.

That's why they go to The Valley.
  • Looked like he had been working very hard on his tan and not much else against welling

Well they've had rich pickings the last few years, maybe they've had their fill. Seems a bit too optimistic doesn't it

You do know it was a friendly and our first of the close season?
  • I think our first choice front line will be BWP and Hayes but with regular service I think Benson could be lethal, not sure if he has missed his chance though.

  • Oh and that he set up our opening goal
  • Interesting to watch Benno on Sat.

Simply put, I wasn't too keen on him last season. But with Green putting the ball in as early as possible as he likes to do, I just wonder if that will really help benno kick on and get even more than 10 next season!?

Benno's goal ratio is quite something. And considering he only had Waggy and Reid to feed of for most of last season. A bit of work on his first touch and he could be prolific with BWP next season.

  • Very happy to have a player like Benno in the squad- we know he won't let us down. We are going to need a squad and there is always a time when you have a few injuries but if you are able to put strong replacements in then you are halway there IMO. Also, great to have those strong replacements pushing for a first team place.

  • I know I  don't get to as many game as most of you but when I watched Benno he always gives his all and never gives up - like the winner at Carlisle, so with decent service I back him to do well this season.
  • With Hayes and BWP I think he'll be on the bench but can maybe be our Plan B is we need a goal or two

Totally agree .. and (I'll take cover right now and get ready for the ridicule) there is something of Mendonca about him, he is calm,, collected and passes well under pressure. I agree with another post, he could do with adding a few pounds in weight
  • I like Benno. He left a club he loved to play for us. He's clearly a good finisher, he just needs good service.

    Agree with this
  • Seconded
  • I also agree

  • He needs the right kind of service. Quick ball to his feet or to run onto and attack, I think he'll be used off the bench next season. In short bursts - 20/30 minutes he could be effective against L1 defences who on the whole aren't the fastest.
  • he is a nice guy and will give all --- and he is a good finisher some of his goals were well put away

  • As an attack builds his movement off the ball is often very clever around the box. Perhaps now he'll get spotted by more perceptive midfielders. I think possibly his best attribute is the ability to see an opening before the ball is delivered - and before the bloke marking him. Not quite the same standard but similar in some respects to Sheringham.

    agreed
  • I think Benno could be this season's Steve Jones, to BWP's Mendonca and Hayes' Mark Bright.
  • I think that's just the way he is built. I asked him about his weight rather enviously at the dinner and whether he can eat and eat and not put a pound on. And yes he is a lucky one. Tho to be fair they must burn enough cals in training to eat what he likes.

Jonah was immense. I recently watched the Wembley match again and saw him right in the thick of the Rufus goal.

Benno needs to man-up and get the ball in the net or he is going to get left behind by this team. He can do it - the stats don't lie, but all that airy-fairy dancing around hoping that the play will come his way is not going to work.

Time to roll up sleeves and get stuck-in.

  • The cross Stevie Jones tugged back for Mendonca's volley in extra time was top drawer stuff. Scored a beauty of an equaliser against City that year too, plus the equaliser at Anfield. Weren't the best player by a long chalk but worked hard and looked like he gave a sh*t, his face when he got that one at Liverpool...
  • Jonah was Keith Jones I thought
  • Steve Jones was another That was underppreciated neve forget his goal t Maine Road. Soz for spelling, in Paphos on iPad and just back from local taverna.
