    Prediction: Champions

    Expectations:  Champions

    Hopes: To become champions
Bonus: To win the league by record points
Looking forward to: Picking up £1500 due to us becoming champions

  • My heart says promotion, but in reality we have no idea - all depends on how the team gels together.

If BWP continues to score and we can defend better than last year - we'll hopefully be in the mix. I think Morrison could be a key player for us this year...

It looks like we have the strong spine, and the key is keeping BWP fit. With that midfield and two genuine wingers we should generate enough chances.
  • Prediction: Top 4 finish

Expectations: Good, passing football with the ball on the deck

Hopes: CP is given a fair chance and no booing.

Bonus: Young players like Green, Morrison, Stephens and even BWP show us that they're good enough to play in the championship next season.
    This.
  • I don't know.
    But a Belgian, a Moroccan and a ....
  • Prediction - Top 6

Expectation - Tighter back 5, more energy from the middle of the park and BWP banging them in

Hope - Im wrong about Chris Powell, as the thing I fear most this season isnt the strength of the squad but the guy running it

Bonus - Wembley day out for JPT

Looking forward to - Orient away on New Years Eve

  • There will be a lot of clubs in the mix this coming season: Sheffield U, Sheffield W, Huddersfield, Hartlepool, Carlisle, Scunthorpe, Stevenage, Exeter, preston and Orient will all be giving it a right good go.

Chris Powell has spent a bit of money, has attracted some good free transfers and assembled an exciting looking young team which for a change has a good all round look about it in all departments.

    Prediction:

    1& 2 Sheffield U and Charlton

Play Offs: Scunthorpe, Sheffield W, Hartlepool and Stevenage.

Player of the season: Danny Green

Top Scorer: Paul Benson (Wright-Phillips will be injury prone)

    Captain: Matt Taylor

Lincs you crack me up. Hartlepool & Stevenage for the play offs ! I'll have a wager with you that they don't make it. You name the price .
Tell you what CE .. you make fixed odds against Hartlepool and/or Stevenage and I'll have a bet with you .. IF the price is right. As a guide, on sportingbet this morning Hartlepool are 18/1 to get promoted and Stevenage are 14/1. Pretty skinny odds which reflect the bookies' confusion as to the situation in our division.
  • One thing I've learned in nearly 50 years of supporting Charlton is don't have any expectations or try and predict anything.

That way you won't be disappointed!

  • Prediction: Top 3
    Expectation: Top 6
Hope: CP leads us to the championship as league 1 champions, playing good football and proves critics wrong and Pritchard ends up being immense.
    Bonus: FA cup run/JPT finalists/winners
Looking forward to: a new bright future for Charlton Athletic.

  • Doesn't anybody feel that we have had such a bad time of it in recent years that we are just due a decent season.
  • I've thought that every season for the last 5!
  • Prediction: Automatic Promotion. Either I wouldn't mind but going up as Champions would be brilliant.

Expectation: Top 2 finish with BWP, Hayes, Benson, Jackson, Green, and possibly Wagstaff all getting into double figures.

Hope: That my prediction and expectation comes true and that Powell is given even more support than he has now with the covered end singing his name. I also hope that we make The Valley a fortress.

Bonus: Having a cup run in any competition and playing a big Premier League team.

Looking forward to: The season in general, what it will bring and the feel good factor continuing. Mostly looking forward to going up and having a party at the end of the season.

  • Prediction: Play-offs min, hopefully sneeking 2nd.

Expectation: Being stronger defensively and creativity in the middle.

Hope: Powell proves to have spent wisely and blossoms, also prevents long winless runs...

Bonus: Cup run including a victory against Palace or Millwalll.

Looking Forward to: the new signings, only been a supporter a couple of years and this is by far the most active transfer window I've experienced! :)
  • The last few years have been painfully grim, so all I want is to leave The Valley smiling and knowing that 11+ players have shown me that they want success as much as I do. It would also be nice to look around and see the Ground full again, and hear loud positive support from the crowd. An unlikely bonus would be to get some decent Referees and other officials, heres hoping.

I'd be happy with this as well :-)
  • Prediction - We will see more goals this season from this new look team. Top six finish if we avoid long term injuries to key players, liking the look of Hollands as the holding midfielder while Stephens pushes forward with Jackson & Green on the flanks.

Expectations - We will not concede as many goals as last season and cut out a lot of the basic defensive errors, expecting a much more fluid passing game with the ball moved quickly around midfield.

Hopes - I hope we carry on producing good young players and that Paul Hart can attract good quality lads to Charlton. I also hope that Chris Powell continues to give the promising lads their chance in the 1st team whenever possible. Looking forward to leaving the Valley with a smile more often.

    Come on you Reds!!

    Wise words Len
  • Prediciton: I always think were going to be Champions - so CHAMPIONS

Expectations - Would like to get a prediction right one day

Hopes - Not to see some pansy prancing around in pink or orange boots. The worst thing for me about our decline has been these stupid tw**s who don't realise we had been watching DiCanio, Parker and Jensen only a few seasons ago. To watch them struggle to trap a football, fail to make a simple pass, and drop their head when the going get's tough in their silly bloody boots has been the worst thing of all. That reminds me, how is Lloyd doing?

  • Prediction - Champions

Expectations  - as long as its promotion not fussed

Hope  - We will win the league

Bonus -  Got my ST back after 3 years without!

Looking forward to a bunch of good solid players, playing for the club and not their agents/bank balance. In short passion!

  • My heart says we should go up I have put money on it not much.
I hope we have a much better season then the last.
Hope is we have a good enough set of players to go up.
  • Prediction: Haven't got a Scooby.

Expectations: Playing decent football and winning most of the time

    Hope: Promotion

Bonus: Not getting mugged by some pony minnow team in the cup a la Charlton tradition

Looking forward to: the feeling that we are finally on the up again after living in what seems like a football nightmare for the last five years or so!

I'm excited by this season. I think the team is looking balanced and we have players who can play football.  It's a young-ish team, might be some inconsistency but equally I think they'll gel quickly, we'll see a little more pace and expression about the place and they'll grow with us.  Good work Sir Chris.

    Prediction: Promotion

Expectations: Top 3 (think we've got to get top 6 surely?)

Hopes: We get off to a good start and let the momentum build.  Powell's clearly got more about him than the end of last season perhaps allowed him to show, and he's attracted some really decent players at this level. I think we still need a few signings, right back, centre half (could be same guy), wide man and another striker, get those and I'm hoping for a famous title winning year.

Bonus: Drawing and beating Palace in the cup. Any cup.

Looking forward to: A season of fun. Classy winning football.  Watching Danny Green. An end to the years of the sort of short term thinking among the fans that will see Powell out murmurs starting from the first loss.
  • Prediction: Promotion
Expectations: Top 4Hopes: Pass the ball aroundBonus: Palace relegated and Millwall have a crappy season.Looking forward to: Occasional 20K crowds with a great atmosphere - Oh and the big TV in Bartrams being fixed...please.
  • Surely an expectation becomes a prediction? How can the two be different? Why would you predict something different to that which you expect?

My hope is that people re-align the two to be the same otherwise it doesn't make sense.

Bonus: People thank me for pointing this out.
  • I think the 'expectation' part is the minimum your be happy with, and then you predict what will actually happen

  • Thanks for at least fulfilling my hope that someone is willing to discuss this, but I disagree. It's impossible to predict what will actually happen because no-one really knows. That's what makes it just a prediction. All you can do in order to make a prediction is to say what you expect. What you expect is not the same as the minimum that you'd be happy with either.

For example: I think that with the investment we've made in the team, we could eventually be a top two team. If these players had already been together since January and then with a bit of fine-tuning this summer then I would expect top two . However, this is not really the case; they will need time to gel, the manager is still a rookie, and Charlton being Charlton I expect us to fall short and finish 3rd or 4th. Therefore if you gave me a tenner to spend at the bookies I would bet on a 3rd or 4th finish: this would therefore be my prediction. My expectation is my prediction.
The minimum I would be happy with would be something else: 6th place.
My hope would be to get top two.

Oh, and also I'd like us to get knocked out the JPT as soon as possible.
  • Around this time two years ago some fans said Parky was a poor manager and predicted that he'd either be sacked early on in the season or that he'd do no better than mid table.

Those fans still had the minimum expectation of promotion. That's the difference.
  • I see what your saying, but i think we are using 'expect' differently.

Im looking at the way in that a boss would say to his employee 'I expect you to finish that work' like it has to be done.

    Prediction: Promotion

    Expectations: top four

Hopes: That we 'do a brighton'  and that Chris Powell is given plenty of time to gel this new squad together and that Palace get thumped every week and relegated.

Bonus: Making it to a respectable round of the cup competitions. Millwall join palace.

Looking forward to: The first day of the season! Cannot wait now to see some decent, young, hungry and ambitious players who actually see a long term future with the club.
