Who will keep their place in the squad with all the new signings?

edited July 2011 in General Charlton
Only think BWP, Jackson and Eliot have the best chance of keeping their place in the 1st choice starting line up. Looks like a completly reformed team. Who's who? will be the question vs welling.

  • I dont think Elliott will be our first choice next season!I think Powell sees Sullivan as the better option!I agree with him!
  • I'm not really familiar with the positions of a lot of the new signings. Has anyone got a list of who plays where?
  • Only BWP and Jackson for me. Don't think Elliott will even be here
  • BWP and Jackson, Elliott bench at best.
  • Solly could be at right back depending on whether Morrison has been signed as a full back or centre back.
  • solly jackson and bwp.

solly is a maybe as dabos said.
  • I think Hollands and Wiggins will hold their positions down!
  • Whoops forgot Solly, he'll definitely be in against Bourenmouth as will Waggy too, after that he faces an almighty bttle with Green.
  • BWP deffo will..........still need a couple more options up front.

    c'mon Powell...............sort it out !!!!!!

  • if you mean in the squad, rather than team, then BWP, Jackson, Waggy, Solly, Benson and Doherty

if team just the first two, the rest on the bench until needed and Waggy will be first game, as LA alludes to (Green suspended)

  • BWP & Jacko are the only two who deserve to keep their place.

Elliot,Solly,Waggy, Are all good back-up but have shown us over the last two seasons that they are NOT going to contribute "enough" to get this team out of league one.

  • I said to Powell at the Bromley meeting that only BWP & Jackson would get into the Soton team & if we had any expectation of getting automatic promotion we needed 9 1st team replacements.

He said "well that's your opinion" , but I hoped that he agreed with me but couldn't say so.

    I think he agreed :-)

  • Remember Steve Gritt.

Used to get dropped every year (even when he was manager) for new players but always fought his way back in.

There will be one or two others who will lift their game or the new boys won't be up to much/injured.
  • suspect Benson will be a regular
  • For me Sullivan and Elliot are on the same level. TBH with the signings we've made I'm a little surprised we haven't made any offers for a keeper
  • Imagine BWP and Jackson will be automatic first choice in the 11.

Solly and Elliot very close, if Elliot stays of course.

Waggy and Benson will have big roles to play but may not start straight away, expecting more improvement from both and imho both can do a good job at this level  Doc and Dailly (if they both are here in August) will be squad players imho.

  • suspect Benson will be a regular
I'll be surprised if BWP and Hayes don't start as our main partnership. Things could change once we sign another striker though.
  • Id say its pretty likely we will also get euell back seen as he is now training with us. We still need a 4th striker. A rough idea but something like this...

    Eliot

    solly taylor morrison evina

    green alonso stephens jackson

    BWP benson

  • Sullivan

    New RB Taylor Morrison Wiggins

    Green Hollands Stephens JJ

    BWP Hayes

Subs (choice of): Elliott, Evina, New CB, Alonso, Benson, Solly, New CF, Waggy

  • I'm sure injuries will mean that some will be playing a more prominent part than we may have expected - there are bound to be some surprises along the way as well...you never know, one of our less high profile players already at the club might turn out to be our star of the season.....with the best will in the world, this is football and predicting the future isn't a simple business at all!
  • Sullivan ... Morrison, Taylor, Doherty, Wiggins ... Green, Stephens, Hollands, Jackson ..... Wright-Phillips, Hayes
  • I think Elliott will start if fit until window closes, as I don' think rumours of 500k were without substance.
  • I think the groundsman at the valley is likely to keep his place.
  • After one of our atrocious performances under Powell last season, I reported on CL a comment made to me by a senior boardroom figure  that we shouldn't worry because only three of the starting XI that day would still be in the first XI next season.

I passed the info on to CL  because it came from the top and I thought other supporters would be heartened to know that a mass clear-out of the previous manager's  squad and the recruitment of a dozen or more players was part of the new regime's plan. For my pains I got told I was an idiot  who knew nothing.

Well, it was true  I didn't know anything. I was only repearting  what I had been told, and people are right to be sceptical of these things. Even the highest sources aren't always right because  circs might alter - for example, after Dailly's third sending off last season, the same source also told me Dailly would be going. That may yet turn out to be wrong.

But the new owners have kept the promise they made to Powell that  he'd have funds to bring in an entire new team. Total respect to them for that. Now it's down to him to deliver. And in answer to a question posed in another thread, I'm told November  will be judgement time.
