Speaking to older family members about the "Football Specials" train service that used to be put on up and down the country back in the day. Were there many for Charlton fans years back? If so for which games etc and when was the last one?
I went on the Football League Liner to Brighton for an evening kick off cup game. The team were on the train on the way back. Bearing in mind that this was the Charlton Football League liner we were a little perplexed when the train forgot to stop at Charlton. Unlike our pampered players today, Arthur Horsfield was carrying boxes off the train at Woolwich to be out on a train back to Charlton.
Football specials them were the days .Old cattle trucks if you ask me .Dirty and no bloodly heating.Been on too many to keep count but some that spring to mind.
Wolves cup tie 1975
Chesterfield also mid 70s
Plymouth 0-5 defeat think that wae a special.
Liverpool division one 1986 train out of London to Tilehill on the outskirts of Liverpool mainly used by the postoffice.Picked up by special bus service with coppers on board with wooden sticks a yard long.Did not mind who came into contact with them .

Maybe Wolves in 1976?
I was told that Charlton were on the last ever football special to and from Portsmouth but when it arrived back the train was smashed up?
British Rail stopped it after that!
Mid 70s I think?
Didnt they always get parked in the sidings by Plumstead station on a monday morning?
Mainly to have the windows put back in.
