F1 Silverstone 2011

British F1 this weekend, any one from here going? I got to go for free last year as my mates dad only wanted to see the race and didn't fancy friday or saturday but have booked full race weekend this year.
Dunno if there's a lot of interest or not, just wondering.

  • The full weekend is a real buzz, ideal if you're a petrol head.

Get into the pits on friday if they still let you.

Have you got seats? If not copse or stowe corners are good places to camp out.

  • We sat in luffield last year, we're all booked up for stowe this year so should be good.

Loved the whole experience last year, so race day aswell will be even better, it's just a shame vettle seems to just run away with it all the time!

Yep - three day ticket. As always, going Fri to Sun with my Dad as I have since 1986. I have had some of my best sporting memories at Silverstone. Track invasion when I was 7 in 1987 when Mansell passed Piquet with 2 laps left. Hamilton winning by a minute in 2008, and Mansell giving Senna a lift back to the pits in '91.

Whatever people say about F1, I challenge anyone not to be impressed when they see an F1 car in the flesh. TV just doesn't do it justice, the noise is incredible. These guys are on another planet, it is like a jet place on wheels.

Sitting in the new stand at Club leading on to the pits this year. Hope they're good seats (bloody better be for £375)

  • The petrolheads I know go to Le Mans in June for the 24-hour race, I've been going since 1999 - a great chilled-out boys long weekend. And a standing ticket this year was 67 euros. To my mind F1 is ridiculously over-priced, but I suppose if they sell the tickets I must be wrong.
  • Im in the Paddock Club hosting some clients on Saturday and then in Abbey on Sunday.

Went to the Maclaren Technology Centre yesterday in Woking (i work for Vodafone) Lewis and Jensen were bashing out the laps in the simulator.

  • Yes, tickets for the Woodcote A grandstand. Can't wait, never seen F1 at Silverstone.

I'm staying at a mates in Wellinborough on Saturday night which is not that far away. Anyone know what the queues for the car parks are like around 8 in the morning?

  • You will be fine at 8, just don't leave it any later.

  • Went to Silverstone when they did tyre practice.......
Got a press ticket, and all the teams were there, including Ferrari who had three cars.
The noise is  wonderful, This was  about 15 years ago, and was doing a feature on Prof Sid Watkins, and the new medical centre.
Johnny Herbert won the grand prix who was Schumachers team mate, but the eyes were on Hill and Schumacher who I think collided leaving him to take the win!. Because  we were with the prof, we got access everywhere. Top day.
The  cars going along the pit straight was like a jet aircraft.
This was in the days that the track was  not like it is nowadays, and  the exit from the grand prix was a nightmare on race day!
Brands Hatch was always abetter track in my opinion.......and local.
  • I use to love going to Silverstone and Donnington for the grand prix, such a sense of history, having worked in the gulf and asia been lucky enough to go to Bahrain, Abu dhabi and Sepang which are all fantastic venues but they dont have the same feel as european circuits.

However if any of you get the chance come to singapore for the GP, the noise around the city is just incredible, its a nght race and always a good chance of rain - which add to the fun.  Plus this year Linkin Park are playing afterwards and your tickets includes entry to see them.  Last year it was Mariah Carey!!

  • Did a road trip to Barcelona a few years back.

What impressed me most was not their speed, but how quickly they slowed down under braking.
