Vote for Cheryl Baker on Pop Star to Opera Star

Hi guys,

I think you may remember that back in the Selhurst
Park days I enlisted the help of my friend, Cheryl Baker who was then very high
profile with Bucks Fizz to do some promotional support for Charlton’s return to
The Valley – together with Tom Morris we staged a shot of her putting a ‘Vote
Valley’ sticker in ‘her’ car (it was actually my car!). She also came onto my
radio show ‘Charlton Chat’ with Karl Howman to help promote the club’s return
(attached). Her support for the Club and in particular The Valley Party
generated some great publicity for the club and without doubt she played her
part in the ultimate success of the campaign.

Cheryl is now starring in ITV’s ‘Popstar to Opera Star’ and
she has won through to the final which is taking place this Sunday,
10th. I said to her yesterday that I was sure that the Charlton fans
will support her in the Final as many fans still remember her support of the
club at such an important time in its history.

In the big scheme of things it’s quite a trivial  matter –
she’s not running for charity or climbing Ben Nevis for a worthy cause – she’s
competing in a light entertainment production but it would be good if Charlton
fans got behind her on Sunday so I thought I’d contact you guys to start the
ball running......I hope you don’t mind?

Regards

shouldn't this have been posted on the "need help" thread instead ....
  • I'm trusting my inner vision.

So dont let others change your mind...................

  • Now these days are gone, will this be a new beginning? If she can't stand the heat she should get out of the kitchen.

    ............

And there was me thinking that the camera never lies.

  • Bless her. A gravesend girl. Her parents used to live around the corner from me years ago.

As for the "would ya?" ......er, no. but if you had a time machine and went back 20 years?
  • She has done well - the one from steps impressed me on Sunday too (she needed that song in the final though I think) - I think it is best to vote for the one who gives the best performance rather than who is Henry's mate but Cheryl Baker stands a decent chance IMO.

  • so.....

    how do you vote?

    how do you vote?

I think you have to actually watch the final next week on TV....and vote by phone/text when they open the lines (I don't like the programme much but my wife watches it).
  • Cheers Cafc-west

Thought there might have been a web thingy, I've never watched the programme.

    BTW

Henry, I thought Suthers was a CL member.  Why didn't he post this himself?

I'll vote for her if she lends me her phone.

Not my mate, Steve Sutherland's mate although I've nothing against her.

Now he's a CACT Trustee he's too important to post on CL : - )
  • Only seen it the once and thought the whole presentation was awful, cheap and gaudy. Must be how ITV think opera is  really like. But Mrs.M seems to enjoy it and her opinion is that the bloke, whoever he is, is going to take some beating. But  I've always liked Cheryl, a happy person and it seems we have Gravesend in common, so will do my bit for her if I can.

  • Oh well another reality TV show to miss.
  • Well it does show what a difference there is from Opera and Pop - and you can tell from the performances how hard it is for Pop singers to adapt. Cheryl has been consistent throughout and kept her end up - the steps girl has been so so but pulled a rabbit out the hat on Sunday - was probably the best effort I have seen to date on both series of the show.
