Decent enough player from the limited amount I've seen of him. Hope he can adapt to division three - it's a world away from Spanish football at any level. However, the goal above doesn't really show what we've got to 'look forward to' - unless our opposition are going to regularly leave players completely unmarked from free kickcs (which would be nice)
Got a reply from the Tenerife FM researcher on Alonso-
"He is more a box-to-box, the typical midfielder who never gets tired, moves all around the pitch and has acceptable technical qualities. A bit like a Lass Diarra on a poorer scale, widely praised by the supporters because his high work rate and courage and who delivers some good long range passing from time to time, but 90% of time he runs up & down like a headless chicken..."
And a comment from the Spanish head (and Barcelona) researcher, who passed on the message-
As a personal note, he probably will look a lot more technically gifted when playing a more physical league like League 1 (Or at least, these is what it seems to me), but he seemed quite average while in Spain.
Despite the headless chicken comment his overall rating will make him our best player by far and capable of playing in the Championship (and that's after his rating was recently lowered).

.........
So he'll look decent in an average league. with all these young players it's good to have a player with a bit of experience in the squad.
I changed my charlton team on fifa 11 to incorporate all the new signings/loses and alonso is by far rated our best midfielder. Hayes is also very effective within my game.
I realise FM is more accurate that fifa games but I can play with the team and see there characteristics better.

A Spanish friend of mine is a Real Sociedad supporter and his seen a fair amount of him. He described Alonso as having a good engine - someone who gets around the pitch to link up play and is an effective "ball snatcher". His passing can go astray ( although, to be fair, if he had anything approaching his brother's qualities, he obviously wouldn't be coming down here ).
My mate thinks he will do well for us. We shall see.
