I am optimistic that it won't go the way of previous tie ups (Inter, Valencia) due to the presence of Mr Vetere, who has much expertise in this area; but we shall see.
Well when we benfit from the link up then I'll hail it, but untilthen I'll park it with Inter, White Knights, some club in China and Valencia-to name a few. The only thing that seems to have come out of these link ups so far is a year in Italy for Reg's boy.
I read an article recently about their scouting network and youth set up. They can't compete with the big guys financially over there so came up with a business model based on an extensive worldwide scouting network picking up young players, developing them, sending them out on loan to lower clubs for experience, then if they're good enough keeping them for themselves for a couple of seasons before selling them on at a profit to feed back into the system/running the club. Nothing remarkable about any of that except the resources they throw at it being more than pretty much anyone else at the moment.
Absolutely top guys at identifying young talent all over the world so if we get a few crumbs from the table can only be a good thing.
If they save millions on getting the best talent for a song, then I bet they end up in profit when they pay for all their scouting network (especially if then flog that talent for megabucks). It seems obvious, but I suppose the catch is that you need the cash to set up said scouting network in the first place.
Hopefully that is exactly what is happening at our club right now
Let's wait and see the fruit of any deal but the difference seems to be that the model is already working between Udinese and other clubs.
So we'd be buying into an existing, successful franchise.
It could also be a blueprint for what we do ourselves as the business plan develops.
This.
Obviously viewing this with caution but the model is there and has worked in the case of granada. My only concern is that udinese aren't doing this for the love of the game and it could be akin to a franchise. I'm certainly more hopeful than not though.
But the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
Looks like their owners are interested in buying Watford ,from the Watford Observer
Watford have released a statement confirming the club’s board of directors have agreed a deal, “in principle” to sell the Hornets to the Pozzo family.
The family behind the Italian side Udinese and Spanish club Granada have been in advanced negotiations with Watford regarding a possible sale.
And Watford have in the last few minutes released a statement on the pending takeover.
It read: “The board of directors, acting on behalf of Watford Football Club, is pleased to confirm that agreement has been reached in principle for the transfer of ownership to the Pozzo family.
“Representatives from the family have been in discussions with Watford Football Club and both parties have agreed initial terms.”

If the takeover takes place then 1st casualty is likely to be the current manager Sean Dyche the word is that Gianfranco Zola will takeover

This, if it comes off, could be very significant.

Sounds like a good strategy to me, Bournemouth.

Haven't managed to find the article I referred to but this one covers similar ground...
64 players out on loan!
Food for thought though - could we reinvent ourselves as the Udinese of England?
Fruit of the deal
Opening a franchise
Proof of the pudding
Food for thought
Is this Heston Life (live by the spoon) or what????

Just means lots of pressure on Zola who is untried at this level.
I must admit to feeling uneasy with the treatment of Dyche .How are we going to develop young English Managers when they are treated like this ?
