Maginificent. Until now all those goals were in the mind's eye. Before I watched it I could picture the Rob Lee goal v Sheff W, the Steve Thompson goal v QPR (on my 21st birthday!) and Martin Hayes' goal for Arsenal. For all his bad press, Ralph Milne was involved in a few goals and great to see a proper three man forward line looking dangerous (Stuart, Melrose and Lee) although they were only highlights and there were many occasions, when we never looked like scoring.
1-3 v Southampton.....well remember Andy Peake's spectacular but futile dive trying to save Jimmy Case's rocket shot (Nicky Johns had been sent off for a second hack down outside the area). Jimmy Case had a pretty good record against us, what with his hat-trick (all lashed in too) for Brighton in the 1983 0-7 defeat!
1-1 v Newcastle. I do remember the two goals (their one is from Paul Goddard) but I don't know how. Me and my mate had done a pre-match pub crawl in Battersea starting at opening time and things were a little hazy!
The Liverpool game was being beamed live to Scandanavia so there were weird advertising hoardings around the ground. Steve Thompson crashed into one and had to go off. Think a nail went pretty close to sticking him in the heart.
The Man City 5-0 was on a Sunday afternoon and was a proper old fashioned thrashing. They just didn't fancy it at all (they were a pretty grim side then and got relegated) but the whole Charlton team were unplayable that day.
Can't wait for the next instalment. Especially waiting for the West Ham game (did we win 3-0?) If it's the game I'm thinking of, then it was about as one sided as it could ever have been.
West Ham was 3-1, if you mean the away game, John Pearson scored his only goal of the season for us in that game. I think Mark Ward, a vicious little thug, got their goal.

Go and say some more Hail Curbs - it was Tony Cottee actually. Equally as small, but nowhere near as nasty!
Off-it: Mr. Simonsen hasn't contacted me re: the W.Ham video so you may have to risk the spiders in the loft after all. There might have been one or two people who weren'actually there who'll want to see it!
briliant video jimmy thanks! :-) colin walsh what a left foot i like the way he made full-back run backwards in a pannick before hitting that left footer in off the post!
If you look carefully you can see my daughter and myself amongst the 4,541 hardy souls attending the Walsall cup tie. She saw Charlton three times and they lost each time. She has been banned from attending since 1987.
Great stuff Jimmy, a 86/87 was a couple of years before my time but it's grat to see so much fortage of an old Charlton side.
Out of interest, what equipment/software do you need to transfer VHS to a computer and is it a long process or relatively simple? My Dad used to religiously tape any mention of Charlton on TV that he could find as well as buy all the end of season goal compilation videos. I think he has about 70 tapes all in all and as he's recently retired he could do with a project, there's probably some quite rare snippets of footage hidden amongst it all.

I'm surprised at you BFR I would have backed you as one who knew better.
Yep...you are right.
I'll go and say a few Hail Curbs and hope for absolution.
Meant the home game v West Ham (only home goals on the vid)
March 51....how do I contact you mate? I'll have a look for the West Ham away video at the weekend (working away during week).
