Pisa and Florence is a good bet if you don't mind spending a while on a train.
Venice is fantastic and in March you won't get the stinking canals and such bad crowds.
I wouldn't really recommend Genoa. It's a working port and not really all that touristy.
If you go down Amalfi way, there is always Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii and Herculaneum to visit.However, Florence wins with me too.

That's where we're off to in 3 weeks' time. Flying to Naples, staying in Sorrento with trips included to Pompei, Capri and an Amalfi coast drive.
