Much has been made of our playing budget being disappointing. Now I know that we all would like it to be as big as possible but is the 4 million pounds that bad for where we are and where we want to be ? I am taking the figure of 4 million based on our budget of last season which included about million pounds for the contracts of Semedo, Racon and Youga none of whom will be with us on anything like those contracts. That alone frees up money for something like six players wages and with the departure of other players on admittedly less money e.g Llera the squad can be built by signing decent quality league one players and one or two from higher up on top end division one wages. This IMHO should make us competitive and in with a good chance of promotion as long as the coaching is right.
In their promotion season it is reported that Millwall had a playing budget of around 3 million which increased to 4 million for their first season in The Championship. Now as much as I hate to say it Millwall are now a good example of how to build a squad capable of promotion and competing after at the higher level on sensible wages and good coaching.
From this I take heart that our 4 million pounds for the team is perfectly adequate and sits fairly and squarely with the boards ethos of evolution not revolution and running the club on a sensible financial footing. Much will depend on the acumen of Powell in building the squad and coaching them to play as a team and again I hate to use Millwall and Jackett as exemplary. A good season along with promotion is more than possible without us making any headline signings and spending beyond our means.
Think we all need to get behind Slater and CP and let them show us what they can do.

And where exactly have you heard Chris Powell complaining ? And did you specifically look out for Lambert comments when he took over at Norwich or just another negative post ?
