Worner to Aldershot ( Not Jills)

edited June 2011 in General Charlton

Reports suggest that over
the weekend Gills manager Andy Hess might have missed out again on another of
his target signings, this time Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Ross Worner.

Just before the weekend
Ross had confided in close friends that he was about to sign for Gillingham but
for reason(s) not disclosed the Addicks goalie decided instead to sign on the
dotted line for Gills League Two rivals, Aldershot Town.

  • very close to woking who we signed him from!! maybe still lives in that area
  • I always thought he looked like a very capable keeper. Very agile. Only problem is his size and getting bullied on crosses.

Likeness with Joe Hart is a little generous but should have a solid future in the game nonetheless

Looked a bit skittish in the couple of games I saw him in but that may have been nerves seeing as he was a young goalie playing at the highest level of his career so far. He did make some good saves. Agreed he lacks a bit in physical presence, but Shay Given isn't exactly enormous. He certainly seemed to have some talent worth nurturing, not convinced Sullivan is significantly better, for example but happy for him to getting first team football elsewhere.
  • i rated him. didnt get why released him. easy good enough as a backup keeper. dont rate sullivan at all
  • Thought he looked quite lightweight with crosses etc.

As with any player who will consistently he has gained confidence and experience and become a much better player. He was never going to get that with us as we needed more than what he had. No regrets but good luck to him.

Agreed, he wouldn't have developed as much with us unless he was given games and he wasn't quite good enough to get those games. Same probably goes for Sullivan, he could do with some more regular football.

  • Sullivan's great. Every time I've seen him he's looked like our number 1.
    I rate Hamer too. V.decisive.
  • Bit unfair comparing the kid to Joe Hart, more like Tony Hart.

Seriously, good luck to him and i hope he earns a decent living, but an England keeper, no.
