I'm possibly looking at getting my eaves and some guttering replaced. Can anyone recommend/warn me away from, any companies that provide this service. I haven't got a clue how much it will cost and wanted to get at least 3 quotes.
We got some of the guttering, corner joints and connectors to the downpipes done on our four bedroom semi recently and it cost us £350 including labour by a local guy we know and trust. We were quoted £750 minimum for full replacement by others, (local handymen with the necessary skills rather than roofing companies with websites and the name on the side of their vans) with a possible increase of £500 if they needed to use scaffolding. ...
Sounds like the title of a new police procedural drama.
You can do it yourself - its not that hard. I did mine at the back of the house - took me a whole day, mind. And you'll need someone to spot you whilst you're up the ladder.

I had mine replaced by Groom and son a couple of months back.
They werent the cheapeast but they did turn up on time to give me a quote and seamed the most "professional" out of the 4 quotes I got.
Payment in 3 parts
Their men were top guys, really worked hard all day every day. turned up on time and even worked all day Saturday. Cleared up properly and did a very neat and tidy job.
Cheers CK, I might give them a bell. I'm trying to balance the budget with getting the job done well. One issue is I haven't a clue how much it will cost but I'm hoping that if I get enough quotes i'll get an idea about what a fair price is.
That's the best way to play it mart. Three quotes at least is the best way.
Someone will probably quote a ridiculously high amount and someone will probably go in crazy low, but there'll be someone in the middle that seems to know what they're doing and the price will seem fair.

My quotes ranged from 1600 to 2200. I had other bits of work done as well which were not included in that price. I paid cash so 20% off that figure of 2200. (every builder likes cash)
That price was for all 4 sides of the house, garage back and front and a bit over the front door. All in white square stuff.
The materials are not that dear its the 3 days labour for 2 blokes that ramps it up.
Not sure where you live but suggest you check out the National Federation of Roofing Contractors site - there are a lot of cowboys in the roofing business. If the company is not recognised by NFRC I would personally avoid them.
Alltype Roofing (Eltham) have been around donkeys years and are well respected - but not dirt cheap.
Slater & Spiers (Sidcup) is a small company - friendly, reliable.

I'm hopeless at DIY. I have McCann Roofing coming to give me a quote today and a couple of others in the pipeline.
