  • Be a great signing. If he comes to charlton
  • Sounds excellent.
  • As Large said on another thread..............why didnt we pick him up when he was playing for Dartford ?  He was mentioned in the SLP and Mercury quite a few times before norwich moved in, but we were busy looking at Sodje/Benson/Abott etc etc.

Scouts ..............pah !!  sack the lot of them & give the job to Jonathan Ackworth !!!!!!!!!!

  • Going to cost at least 400k too in my opinion so would be a significant investment. Plus would be a great signing. As said elsewhere shame Phil Chapple didn't go to Dartord a few times and save us some money.
  • Won't be £400,000. Only a year left on contract.
  • Bournemouth in for him apparently, I would have thought he'd be avaliable for about 250,000 -300,000.
  • Can somebody expand on what's so great about this lad please? Never heard of him myself.
  • Quick, good finisher, had a good season in a fairly poor Gillingham side and his goals nearly put them in the play offs by default

He signed for Norwich not long after Parky took over. I guess any little money we had was being spent on loans to try and stay up, not players for the future. Pardew/our scouts already had a poor record with lower league players, McLeod, Dickson, Sinclair, Fleetwood etc.

Only seen him when he's played against us - what makes him better than the likes of Benson, McLeod, Dickson and Fleetwood? He's only had one good season as a pro and that was in League 2.

We could do with back up for BWP, someone not expecting to start as first choice, he could be ideal if he's good enough.
  • I think you've hit the nail on the head Scoham. Of the three linked most strongly McDonald is the one who you would worry about pairing with BWP who realistically has to be our fulcrum, however we do need options as BWP is injury prone and does operate almost exclusively by purple patches.

  • Youtube makes everyone look good - just how many unmarked headers do League2 defenders allow the strikers!!

Can't remember seeing him play but 25 goals in League 2 is no guarantee he will be any good in League 1.  Speed and a finishing ability sound good but without the experience I am not convinced I would want to be parting with £250K for him when we only have a small budget.

Not sure on him myself Athletico, just putting a face and style to name for people and youtube is the best means of that

Tell you one thing he does show albeit on the basis of those clips... he's got a good touch
  • Have seen him play a few times for the gills, definitely looked a cut above the rest at that level, similar player to BWP, slightly quicker and always seems to be in the right position at the right time, makes space for himself, worth a punt.
  • Sounds maybe worth a punt at the right price. I agree we need a vaible alternative to BWP with his knees. We don't want to bhe paying too much though and i think a properly physically imposing striker and/or a link man would be more important. We could probably get away with covering BWP with a well judged loan and save some dosh in the process, especially if we can get one from a Premier League club who will cover most of the wages.
  • How stupid does robbie look...
  • I'm a little apprehensive about this one. Sure, he'd be a great signing, but upfront isn't the place we need to be looking right now. I'd rather see two solid defenders come in for 400k than a striker who might not even play every week. On the other hand, if we can afford to spend this kind of cash in a relatively strong position, then we may have more cash than we thought.
  • Bournemouth in for him apparently, I would have thought he'd be avaliable for about 250,000 -300,000.
still fairly young , very quick feet and scored stacks in open pay for an average Jills side

  • Don't think there is anything wrong with having a surplus of dangerous strikers to be honest.

Promotes healthy competition and gives us genuine attacking options on the bench. Norwich have done that for the past 2 years and it has worked for them.

We just need a Wes Hoolahan time player from somewhere. Can't see that happening though...
  • We need 4 decent strikers if we are going to be serious contenders next season. If  Hayes signs, that would give us BWP, Hayes, Benson and McDonald. Not too bad.

If Benson goes, that would enable us to get a big target man in.

  • Personally think it should be either or with Hayes or McDonald.

Neither fit the genuine target man mould.

Powell has also said he wants to improve the physicality within the side. Again, neither tick those boxes.
  • Would rather sign Leon Legge for 300-400k.. We already have a 20 goal man in BWP, Benson can/should chip in with 10-15 goals (scored 20 odd when in League Two, same as McDonald) Hayes would be a good addition and then McDonald trying to get infront of BWP to add some competition.

I'd be happy with McDonald, Legge, Hayes, A left back, Central Midfielder.

  • Just because we're rumoured to be spending £300-400k on one player doesn't mean it's our entire transfer budget.

And it's only a rumour after all.
  • CP can't dictate when clubs will accept fees, allow us to talk to players etc. It may work out that all the strikers come in first and all the centre halves last but so what? As long as we have a capable squad before the start of the season that is what matters. McDonald may be similar to BWP but it doesn't mean they will play together and you need a squad. If BWP gets injured first game of the season some will be moaning then why didn't we sign McDonald. I trust in CP to assemble a decent squad and so far I'm happy with those we've signed and are talking to.

The only thing is that in a world where there's limited resources it means that you have a bench full of talent and notable weaknesses in other areas.
  • True. Daily came in on the last game of Pre-Season and didn't we win the first 12 games or something?

  • Think Mcdonald would be a good signing, always hear his name mentioned on here and it never hurts to have goalscorers in the squad. But if we have a limited budget I'd rather it be spent on a defence, which let us down so many times last season.

  • IF we're about to sign Cody McDonald, as it's been said that he's a similar player to BWP, it could mean that BWP is on his way out? Just a thought.
  • Or we need cover for him. A squad is important in football - ideally if a player is injured, you don't want to change the way the team is set up too much. Half full or half empty?

Powell agreed with the players he had, he wanted to build his team around BWP & Jackson, so I really don't think those 2 will go, unless we had  ridiculously high offers for either of them.
